Omar Salazar Weartest

Last thursday we where invited by NIke SB to come and test new Omar Salazar shoe here in Skatepark Amsterdam. A lot of international press, shops, bloggers, pro skaters Justin Brock, Daryl Angel and Omar himself we’re all in Amsterdam for the European release of his pro-model on NIke SB.

The day started at the American Hotel on Leidsplein where all the riders and guests we’re staying and while we we’re waiting for the bus to take us to the skatepark and this bus rolled up…

Method Man had a show in Amsterdam and was supposed to stay in the same hotel…

They had a room with a balcony so he could smoke but he wasn’t having that and found a suite at the Kraknapolsy hotel where he could smoke inside……the rest of his crew did stay at the American hotel.

The people from Frisco, Toms skateshop and Alex from Tagsters.nl…

When we drove up the place this is what we saw….blue light…

This is where the light was coming from….

So we stepped out the bus and we had to walk in here…..they recreated the space station from the commercial….pretty crazy.

This was the insde of the spaceship and we all sat down for a little presentation by Omar and James who designed the shoe….

And then i discovered that if i didnt use my flashlight the pictures were getting a lot better!

That”s Omar and James if you turn your head sideways….

So after the presentation we got to the skatepark which was in the same building and we saw ufo’s flying!

So they had these guys that were flying with these things….

Then we got our free pair of Omar shoe’s by these girls……….

So i put on the shoe’s and tried to skate but since Justin Brock, Daryl Angel, Omar and everyones new favourite Am Correy Kennedy were skating as well i had to watch them ofcourse….Everyone was ripping including all the European riders like Youness, Adrian B and our own Tim Zom. No action flicks sorry!

After a 2 hour skatesession with food and drinks it was off to the afterparty at DEP!

Free booze all night so everyone was all wasted as usual!

So…lasershows, re-creation of a spacebooth which was used for only a half hour, free food shoe’s drinks, etc… Nike SB went all out on this one! Thanks!

Ben-G x 5 days off x Stampd’

20 February 2010, 17.52 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Next Thursday the 25th of February will see the release of an unique collaboration between Amsterdam’s Skate store Ben-G, 5 days off Festival Amsterdam and the LA-based footwear company Stampd’. This collaboration is to celebrate the 10th Year Anniversary of 5 days off and the 5th Year Anniversary of Ben-G.

The shoe is designed by Benny Komala: founder of Ben-G, Amsterdam’s well-known Skate store. Komala has a rich history in the skate scene and 2010 will mark the 5th Year Anniversary of his store ‘Ben-G’. He likes simplicity in a shoe, which you can see in this collaborative effort, which he designed together with Amsterdam based designer VINZ. The shoe will be released in a limited run of 100 pairs, of which only 80 pairs will be sold to the public.

5 days off Festival – (3 – 7 March 2009)

Originally conceived as an off-shoot of Belgium’s 10 Days Off, Amsterdam’s 5 Days Off acts more as a springtime counterpart to the city’s autumn staple ADE with room afforded for more niche programming over a number of days and venues. Focusing on the one-two punch of favored spaces Melkweg and Paradiso, there’s something for everyone: Detroit-influenced tech and house (Redshape, Keith Worthy, Patrice Scott) indie dance (Hot Chip, Bloody Beetroots), dubstep (longstanding local night Oi! with Rusko and Joker), electro (Vitalic, Fake Blood), future beats (Flying Lotus, Bibio, Floating Points), plus the DJ elite (Paul Kalkbrenner, Pantha Du Prince, Dixon) and surprise acts (hip-hopper DOOM, on his first European tour).

Stampd’ LA was created by designer, artist, and entrepreneur Chris Stamp. The Stampd’ evolution was birthed at the beginning of the shoe customizing craze. Chris began customizing shoes as a method of expression by hand painting 2-D, pop culture inspired graphics on Chuck Taylor and Toms. The style caught on, and soon he was collaborating with the likes of N.E.R.D, Elle Degeneres, DJ Steve Aoki, and dozens of other celebrities. In addition, Chris developed a fully interactive website for customers to design a personalized, one-of-a-kind shoe. The response was overwhelming and led to the development of Stampd’ LA Footwear. Chris soon partnered with a LA-based manufacturer to develop high quality footwear that continues to exceed industry standards.

The Ben-G x 5 days off x Stampd’ will be released on thursday the 25th of February at Ben-G in Amsterdam. There will be a raffle of 20 free tickets for the 5 days off Festival between everyone who purchases the shoe.
