All the blogs and forums were in heavy debate yesterday about Lil Wayne’s questionable fashion sense. I am happy to see our Scout Trooper hat safe on Mack Maine as they sat court side together at the 2011 NBA All-Star Game.

And we thought Black Metal was the only music coming out of Norway. Lars Rubix shows us that there is also a Norwegian hip-hop scene alive and well. Glad to see that he has better taste in gear then Weezy – just sayin.

You all know how important stickers are to me and the Benny Gold brand. The Brand spawned from just 1 simple sticker. Don’t let anyone tell you that the little things don’t matter. We paid homage to our beginnings by adding a gold colored sticker vending machine in our SF retail store.

The support behind a brand is what makes a great brand. FSB Skateboarding in Fairfield California has been holding us down and carrying the Benny Gold line for awhile. Being that I’ve made a career and a name for myself as a logo designer, it’s ironic to have a logo that is constantly adapting with the brand. The identity of the Benny Gold brand is less about the actual mark itself — its about the symbolism and how that message resonates with our customers.

I enjoy exploring the paper plane icon and working it into the details of our products and designs. Exploration and discovery are intrinsic to youth. I hope that you enjoy finding it as much as I do hiding it.

In life and design I never want to get complacent and stop progressing. Having an ever evolving logo and brand keeps a constant challenge to myself to continue to grow.

I love all aspects of the culture behind independent street wear or whatever you choose to call it. We are all combining our passions together with fashion and presenting our own spin on things. For the Benny Gold brand it is a little bit of fashion mixed with skateboarding, a heavy dose of graphic design and the ideal of holding fast to our youth.

The amazing boutiques that support the brand and help shape the scene have their own take on the culture as well. Backside in Echo Park and Burbank California have been offering a great selection of music and fashion since they opened their doors in 1994. Other then handpicking the best street wear brands they carry such as Mishka, The Hundreds, Huf, Rebel 8 and Benny Gold the also stock a wide range of record labels like Delicious and Stonesthrow. Their stores are a great mix of music, fashion and art.

Most of the industry is off to Vegas for the trade show. I decided to stay behind this time and get some work done. The brand has been growing so fast that I find myself extremely busy lately that it’s hard to get away. It’s good problems to have and it definitely beats working for someone else.

Our new season needs to get into production asap, so I am making sure that all the designs are perfect. I like to print them out at full size to make sure there are no surprises in design, size and placement. He who leaves nothing to chance will do few things poorly.
