Benny Gold

Production

04 April 2012, 21.26 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Production is by far the hardest part of having and running your own brand. There are always unseen issues that arise at the last minute right before you promised to ship the products to all your store accounts – ughhh. It can be a nightmare, but worth it when it all works out and you see your product enjoyed by the supporters and fans.

We produce a good amount of our product locally right here in San Francisco, so I can control the quality as much as I can. Little things like making sure the label is positioned in the right place, the correct buttons are used and the custom packaging you designed actually gets included with the product really helps save time and avoid issues.

Wish us luck as we tighten up all the last minute production and get this upcoming season ready to ship!

Going.. Going..

A good amount of free swag gets sent to the shop. It’s ranges from up and coming brands looking for advice on their designs to established companies wanting to break into more niche markets. Regardless of where it comes from I am always grateful! It’s especially nice when the brands put in something a little extra to personalize it and make the gift more meaningful.

Skullcandy recently produced this set of 1 of a kind headphones and dropped them off at our store. Thank you so much! I am going to put these to good use and drown out the distractions to get some serious design work handled.

Who’s In-store?

30 March 2012, 18.04 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

We get a lot of visitors at our SF retail store. Here are a look at some of the recent ones that have inspired me in some shape or form to push the brand further. Thank you for stopping by and keeping me motivated!

Eddie Zammit and his friend Deb are visiting from Australia. Eddie is the man behind the T-world Journal. It’s the worlds only printed journal dedicated to T-shirt culture. I posted some pics of the amazing t-shirt exhibit they had here. If you haven’t seen their latest issue focusing on NY t-shirt brands you are missing out.

You Are Beautiful is a campaign dedicated to positive change and empowerment. I personally love the project and have watched it grow over the years to be very inspiring to myself and others. We even collaborated together in 2004 on This Is An Outlet where Matthew (pictured with his wife) he sent artist around the world and electric outlet cover to install as public art. Mine included a sketch I did while traveling in Japan along with the stickers in my pocket.

Benji and Ducky spent the weekend in SF recently. Benjie is the lead designer over at The Hundreds. Over the years I have had the pleasure of meeting most of the creatives behind the streetwear brands that we all love. Benjie is by far one of my favorites and we have become great friends geeking out over design and illustration.

John Prolly, on the left, is the man behind the insanely popular bike blog Prolly Is Not Probably. He has become a voice for the fast growing fixed gear culture. Is that bourbon for me? Little known fact about Prolly is that he is also an architect and help design the Mishka stores.

Local legend and amazing skate photographer Joe Brook is always a pleasure to see. He came to the store recently, with his son Archer to talk about our upcoming t-shirt collab. If you been to our store you will know Joe’s work. His Mission St. photo is framed and hangs in the store proudly!

Surprise Pack

29 March 2012, 18.58 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

We all loved Cracker Jacks growing up. The best part of treat was the experience and the surprise to be found inside. I used the Cracker Jack packaging as an inspiration for the surprise pack that comes out of the sticker vending machine in our store.

Hand stamped – Can you guess what’s inside?

A Beautiful Mess

It’s that time of the year again when we are getting ready to release a new season. My office is a mess with samples, new tags and invoices.. It’s a beautiful mess though.

Passion

27 March 2012, 18.15 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

The Benny Gold brand is all about encouraging creativity and passion! It really inspires me when the fans send in pictures of themselves wearing our clothing while they are doing what they are passionate about. Here are a few recent pics of our amazing supporters on stage doing what they love!

Febri Haryanto, from Jakarta, Indonesia Rocks hard on stage in our Golden Gate shirt.

20 year old DJ / entertainer Got Benny on stage using our sold out Jansport collaboration on stage during one of his sets.

Let’s see what you are passionate about! Please tag me on twitter @bennygold or on our facebook fan page so I can see what means the most to you!

Golden Ticket Winners

26 March 2012, 18.14 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

We recently installed a classic sticker vending machine in our SF retail. You can check the post I wrote about it here – If you can’t tell I am really excited about the shop addition and it looks like the customers / fans are also!

Hidden within the stack of stickers and random prizes there are a few #goldentickets. The tickets are good for free merchandise, discounts and a great way to keep the store experience fun!

Here is a look at some of the recent winners! Come visit us at 3169 16th St. San Francisco, Ca. to give it a try – good luck!

Your Demise

23 March 2012, 17.27 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Lead singer of the UK band Your Demise is wearing our plane crest hoodie in their newest video: These Lights. The video and song is awesome. Thank you for the support!

You can pick up the hoodie that he is wearing in our online shop. It’s a good time because our bi-annual 30% Off Sale is going on for a limited time!

Vintage Script B New Era Fitteds

21 March 2012, 19.28 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Here is the first look at a set of vintage 8panel New Era caps that we are releasing next month. They are part of our Valencia Collection that is coming out in April. The hats are constructed of classic flannel materials with a felt Script B embellishment. The fit of this collection is based off vintage baseball hats originally worn on the field. This style of these hats was originally only available in Japan until now.
