Anybody that has been  coming to Melrose for the last 10 years may have seen.. or actually heard a deranged homeless man known only as “birdman”.. do to the noises he would make along side vulgar comments to people..  Never knew what really was bothering him.. nor did we ever have words with one another.. Always thought he was just this raving lunatic..until way day Jerald Webb our team rider left his board outside the shop.. when he came out there was “birdman” riding it.. but not only riding it.. pulling no comply’s and 360 flips with ease.. and for those four minutes he was on the board,, something triggered him to be “normal” and he actually spoke to us. His name is Steve and hes a LA native.. soon after we put together a board of his own.. writing his name on the top of the griptape so he knows its his.. soon as we gave it to him.. it brought him back to happier times.. he would take his brand new board and ride it for hours.. then he would bring it back to the shop.. walk in the back of the store and put it in its place with all of our boards.. as if he was part of the team.. which he now is.  Amazing what a little understanding and caring can do to someone.. so next time you see “birdman”.. say Hello Steve.. hows the skating going ? And watch his eyes light up..

I remember getting the phone call the day after the bus crash in the southern part of Sweden.. didn’t want to believe it.. Cliff had died ??!!?? Get the fuck outta here.. NO WAY !!! Thought it was a rumor.. but considering the source from where it was coming from ( the Metallica camp ) it hit me like a ton of bricks.. soon to be followed a year later by the sudden passing of my beloved father.. up until then.. I had never experienced  death so close to home.. a few days later.. it was all over the place.. you couldn’t turn on the radio or tv for that matter and not hear the news. God bless you Cliff.. only knew you a short time but you left a lasting impact on me.

Don’t know of too many people who are in the street wear game that had a TV background like myself ( MTV 1992-1996 ) until now.. James Jebbia.. mastermind of one of my favorite brands Supreme was once a childhood actor.. having a a roll on a British TV show from the 70’s called ” Grange Hill “..   The second pic is dead on James.. even more props go out to him for flipping his stardom to something great and good luck to the London store opening..peep the photos below :

Our team rider , Jarold Webb, is moving back to his hometown of Hawaii for a recharge for a while to concentrate and focus on skating. Jarold was more than the manager of Brooklyn Projects.. he was family. We threw a surprise party for him at the happiest place on earth.. The  Iconic Rainbow on Sunset.Here are a few pics from the night..
