2.10.12 marked the six year anniversary of the untimely passing of James Dewitt Yancey, known in hip-hop circles worldwide as J. Dilla. We thought it be necessary to honor this musical genius at our monthly Fresh Fridays party in the 757.

Resident DJ and local legend DJ Bee along with DJ Cornbread provided the sounds to get the night started early. We were also honored to have House Shoes (Detroit icon & personal friend of Dilla) on hand to spin some never before heard Jay Dee tracks. The real treat of the night came from super producer and Norfolk, VA native Nottz Raw. He was one of the few people in the game that Dilla respected and this tribute mix he performed that night shows just why. Enjoy and always Rest In Power Dilla Dawg… Peep the live recording below.

Peace! Commonwealth DC will be hosting the “H.R. Documentary Fund Raiser / C’MON X H.R. Product Launch” November 2nd. The legendary frontman of Bad Brains will be in-store between 8p to 10p, and will be available for autographs and conversation. In addition we will also be releasing “C’MON & H.R.” partnered products in which proceeds will go to the HR documentary by Small Axe Films. Your support will directly benefit the finishing of this important documentary. The Washington Post states,

“There are few rock icons more overdue for a film treatment than Bad Brains; gifted, eccentric and ferociously energetic frontman H.R., and finally he’s getting one.”

In addition, immediately after the in-store event we will be migrating to the U Street Music Hall (1115 U St.) for the official after party. Live performances by H.R. and Human Rights, and music selections from DJ’s Stereo Faith (Mousetrap/DC) and Kenny Meez (Federeation Sound/NYC).

On January 19th the Stussy DC and Commonwealth are proud to present Historic, in celebration of President Elect Barrack Obama’s inauguration. Come celebrate this historic event the night before with special guests Bun B and Wale at the Stussy DC Chapter Store. In addition, special edition Stussy DC X Commonwealth tees will be released.
