LA PEOPLES

28 April 2010, 15.53 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

I recently spent a few days in Los Angeles my so called 2nd home. I have been logging time in LA since my late teen years and have always dug the place for all it’s plus’ and minus’. Best thing to me about LA is the people, my homies and friends. Funny lots of NYers say LA people or fake but my experience is that everyone from everywhere has the ability to be full of ish….Some of my favorite people and times in my life were spent with people from and in LA so for me I don’t buy in to that baloney. I always get love in LA therefore I give it back Nuff said! Anyways here’s some folx I ran across in my travels.

Ben Hundreds, Bobby Hundreds and Brooklyn Dom Deluca the homie forever!

Scotty Hundreds my brother in Metal…Rock on Mr. Grindtainer!

Joe Hahn from Linkin Park and Andrew from Think Space a great gallery in LA…@ The David Choe show….Good show go check it

This is Estevan Oriol’s father Eriberto Oriol. I have known Estevan for over 20 years this was the first time I met his pops. He’s rocking his sons shirt that’s so rad! I have been hanging with my pops a lot of late he’s been in NY on a book tour, seeing grown fathers and grown sons together digging each others art and life forces is a great thing…

Retna he is about to blow the F up….real talk.

Heavy Hitters: Tim Biskup and Dr. Darren Romanelli plus my dumb ass….

Casey aka Eclipse MSK and owner of Known Gallery and my favorite Angel Oriol Estevans wifey and a totally ill ass lady! She is so gangster u might recognize here from this shot

Right here…so gangster…..

This is Estevan and me…..This dude is the dude….He and the crew gave me my LA pass 25 years ago I have rocked with them ever since.

Erica and Steve Malbon….They recently got married and are expecting they’re first born a boy any day now…There awesome

A blurry J Money with lovely wifey Regina playing the back round

The Mayor of Venice Cesario “Block” Montona and his niece!

It’s me and Mr. Phil Frost. Phil is a really gentle dude and a totally great person go see his show it’s sick!

Young Jamie and Cotton Mouth Lou my LA running partner since 1996. Dude has been my main bro for as long as anyone in LA can remember at this point. Him and OG Olson are the people I’m most likely to run the streets with when I’m in LA, Lou is just a right on brother and a great great friend. He is about to relaunch Cotton Mouth
and has a denim line I’m actually wearing in my pics in this post he’s launching that’s tight called Odyssey the stuff looks great and Lou is the partner of partners! We did a craze photo shoot in the gallery that will invade your world soon it features some heavy hitters…..Stay tuned!

Went to Ben Hundreds Bday party on Saturday…he turned 30 congrats…..I had mad tacos and beer at his Bday bash it was really fun one of the best least pretentious partys I went to LA in a long time Happy Birthday thanks!

This made me laugh….My boy OG Olsons son Alex…..pretty funny stuff

And like usual I saved the best for last….What can I say about this dude that hasn’t already been said besides so what if he’s Alex’s son? Guys a legend in many fields and also the worlds most interesting mans stunt double….His name is Olson …..Steve Olson dammit and he is as LA as I am NY! He is one of the fathers of skateboarding as you know it

Much love to my LA people I didn’t get pics of including Bodagan, Young homie CtoTheJL, Geordie, Eric D, Revok, Aaron and the Agenda crew, and Bald Head Greg….who did I forget?
Don’t forget to check out my site for some cool stuff @http://www.danteross.com/

DAVID CHOE:NOTHING TO DECLARE AT LAZARIDES GALLERY LA

23 April 2010, 13.36 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Nice show very grandiose in scale with a amazing amount of work hanging on the walls. Made me wonder when does this dude sleep? I dig David Choe’s fearlessness most of all, he just totally goes for it and this show is no exception. Rolled with OG Olson and Phil Frost saw a whos who of LA people on hand and took it all in. Saw Steve Laz and he explained that the gallery would be open for 4 months an would house 3 more shows at this spaceg which sounds pretty interesting.I particularly dug David Choe’s water colors most of all so I’m going to post a gang of em here. This is not a water color but rather a very attractive looking woman…

This one kind of reminds me of Francis Bacon a bit….a few pieces did

Water Color time:

David Choe has a way with painting beautiful Asian woman….I am not mad at all

These are dope, they also remind me of NeckFace a bit. Totally cool curious does it remind of of Nasty Neckface

This is great right here…..

This is not a water color but its dope

Over all a good show and a intriguing new gallery in the LA art scene even if only for 4 months. I had a great and will post a gang of pics post.

Enjoy

THE SPECIALS:WHATCHA GONNA DO LIVE IN NYC 4/20/10 from PRO KEDS on Vimeo.

I’m a huge Specials fan have been since my youth. Never was a full on Ska boy but other than the Clash or the Bad Brains the Specials were my favorite punk leaning group ever. I never stopped listening to them even when I went full scale hiphop they were always on my personal playlist. Seeing them for the first time since I was 14 a few blocks from where I saw them as a kid at summer stage when it was on pier 54 I gotta say they blew my socks off.
The amazing thing was there were OG’s like myself but also a ton of kids age 14-20 running around skanking who knew all the words. Made me happy and made me think the kids still love great unique music in this day and age of Lady Gaga. Maybe the 80′ revival actually got the youth in to this stuff.

I think these dudes have another record in them. Wouldn’t that be cool if they could get Elvis Costello to produce em again like he did the 2 brilliant records he produced for them ( The Specials and More Specials respectively). I think because of the age of their fans and the infusion of youthful fans the guys could actually do it again and sell some units. I know I would love to see it!

CONGRATULATIONS BOOGIE AND NAMI!

HAPPY 40TH CRAZY DAVE ORTIZ!

21 April 2010, 14.11 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 comment »

We came together last week at the Etnies showroom to show love for our man Crazy Dave Ortiz. Happy 40th to one of my all time favorite knuckleheads and the greatest hype man I have ever personally had.
A bunch of genius were on hand to enjoy the festivities:

Robbie Ganjemi and my favorite all time NY skater to watch and a dude I somehow never met before Gino Ianucci…Style for miles right there

Petey Pete and DJ Kaori a blast from the past:

JR Cronhiem and my idol John  ” Old Ghost” Griegley one of the best east coast vert skaters of his day!

Billy Rohan in a tux and my man Cinik!

Great night mad beers and a nice hangover plus watching Dave dance to old school house provided by Stretch Armstrong was tremendous….Great nigth glad I was there to join in the celebration!

Much respect Pa!
