ROCK THE BELLS THE WU EDITION

30 August 2010, 16.43 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Checked out Rock The Bells this past Saturday. Rolled with the homie DJ Muggs and Ill Bill had a blast. They had to break out early so I had to fend for dolo. I rolled around backstage before the Wu popped off moments after I was brisked off the side stage viewing area post a killer Tribe performance. I looked around and spotted my man Michael Caruuso and Power respectively Ghost and The Wu’s managers. I cashed in my rap juice card and got a front row stage viewing of the last rap group I really cared about as they bodied NYC like no one’s business. I also met ODB’s son YDB and was psyched at him being part of what the Wu had going on. My awesome seat for Wu confirmed my 20 plus years in the rap game weren’t for naught it actually earned me a front row seat for Shaolin’s finest. This ranks up there with some of my all time hip hop pleasant surprises cause I figured if I didn’t get a good seat for the Wu I was gonna bounce home. I got the view I wanted and the rest is in the memory banks for the ages….A tremendous performance full of classic Wu madness

Videos to come for now enjoy

STEVIE RAY VAUGHN: 20 YEARS AGO TODAY WE LOST THE LAST GREAT GUITARIST!

27 August 2010, 18.42 | Posted in Uncategorized | 1 comment »

This guy is one of my favorite musicians of all time. This performance is inspirational he was one of the most amazing musician I have ever heard in any genre of music.I rate him right behind Hendrix as the most amazing combo of Soul and virtuosity. He was truly a blues man, a monster of a guitarist and the only man other than Hendrix I ever want to hear playing Little Wing ( yep Eric Clapton included!). Stevie Ray played with the fire his idol Albert King had, the elegance of Wes Montgomery and the agility of a young Jeff Beck at times. His ability to dam near channel Hendrix’s soul is one of his many gifts to us the listener at large.
I saw him play live twice in my life and I can easily say it was the most tremendous live soloing I have ever seen, not to mention 2 of the most memorable shows in my life. I am a fan of amazing guitarist’s always have been and since Stevie Ray’s departure other than Dan Aurbach of the Black Keys and Warren Haynes the legendary Allman Brothers/Goverment Mule guitarist I haven’t felt the connection between a modern blues player and my ears. Stevie Ray was when he first came on the scene a breath of fresh air and a return to soulful, blues inspired rock and roll I truly love on the highest level. Glad I got to appreciate him while he was alive. If you never heard him I suggest his “The Sky Is Crying” as a starting point, from there you will be absorbed by his playing if you have any soul whatsoever.

Peep this song it’s callled “Life By The Drop” . It was never a hit song, it was released after his death. It is beautiful, honest and a tune I reflect on when ever I feel my lifes going off the rails. It is one of the most powerful songs ever written about sobriety. This song always reminds me of my friend Everlast he digs this tune a bunch he turned me on to it which makes sense of you know the road me and him often walk.
Enough philosophizing though just enjoy the music if your amongst the uninitiated and if your already a fan enjoy knowing your up on one of most amazing body’s of modern guitar playing ever. Thanks SVR your music helps me get right when I’m all wrong! Much respect and Rest In Power your music is eternal!

Thanks to my intern Matty Raz who shot this stuff while I was out west doing the trade show thing.

Enjoy

PRO KEDS FALL 10 VIDEO LOOK BOOK

17 August 2010, 09.27 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

FALL 2010 PRO-Keds from PRO KEDS 2010 on Vimeo.

As one of my last gigs at Pro Keds I had the task of putting together a video lookbook for the brand. I with my directing partner ( I produce he directs) created this little film showcasing the brands fall product in a organic and subtle yet effective way. The kids in the video Nick and his crew of bicycling sound clashers called Future Shock crew from Ozone Park Queens were a pleasure to work on all levels. We gorilla’d the streets of NY no permits at all and just made it happen. The amazing thing is we shot this Monday and had it in the can by Friday another sign that we were spot on with our treatment/concept and execution.
I did some great stuff with Pro Keds in my year and a half working with the brand and creating this as one of my last projects for them was a nice way of wrapping things up on a positive note. As I move on with my Famous Stars and Straps gig and various side hustles I will always look back at Pro Keds as a very interesting experience.

Enjoy the short
