SKATE JAM

30 September 2009, 17.58 | Posted in DURKL | No comments »

A few weeks ago DURKL fam E. Hynek hosted a skate jam for underprivileged kids in DC.  Not only did he bring over 50 new/gently used decks, wheel sets, and trucks out, but he built a mani-pad that was permanently added to the bridge spot.  Our homey Clay Kessack came down from NYC to shoot some flicks too.  Lookout for a future DURKL x Kessack collabo.

DC TO NY

Warrior Footwear is one of the oldest footwear brands in China.  They recently entered the US market, stocking at Bodega, Alife, and Union amongst others. This weekend they asked us if we wanted to head up to Coney Island and help shoot their new lookbook with some DURKL product. We brought our scraper bikes, Sweet Jayne and E.Hynek, plus male model extrodinaries Ben Burbs and Spencer T.  As it turns out, DC brethren Sean Mattison was shooting the photos as well. Checkout some behind the scenes photos below and be on the lookout for WARRIOR.

The Washington Post, introduced their revamped weekly Sunday magazine this morning.  The new design revealed a new layout, columns, features and logo-ing.  It also included a feature on the shared creative space that DURKL calls home.  443 i St. is not only home to DURKL, but almost a dozen other creatives from bands like US Royalty, to painter Tendai Johnson.  Checkout some pictures of the Gold Leaf tenants below, and read the full text here.

GOIN’ ALL CITY

17 September 2009, 18.20 | Posted in DURKL | No comments »

Graffiti has had quite the history within DC, growing from go-go crew tags to legal piecing and intricate throw ups. DC has miles of trains, blocks of warehouses, and police force with bigger problems to deal with, yet seemingly only a handful of writers continue to bomb hard.  Our new space is definitely in the cut, and its nice to see writers in our neighborhood getting up.  Checkout some pieces from around town that capture some of the best writers period.  This one is right in our backyard.

COOL DISCO DAN the OG go-go Writer of DC.

PEAR is one of the best…Always innovating, he stays crushing the red-line with NSF Crew!

Rezist, a SICK piecer, and another member of NSF. Checkout the drainpipe dripping onto the tag.

Go big or go home. KOMA and NORE of ATB Crew. 3 stories with a fire extinguisher.

MOE walks blocks. Probably king of the city at this point.

TONS OF REDLINE FOOTAGE including Jake, Pear, HOA, Cave, Soma, Che, Cert, Nick, Paeback, Roes etc.

WALE & UCB

11 September 2009, 22.26 | Posted in DURKL | No comments »

Our hometown of DC has seen a creative explosion in the past couple of years.  Art, Music and Fashion in town have progressed by leaps and bounds since we started producing garments in 2004.  DC’s own Wale and UCB have been selected by MTV to be the house band for the MTV VMA awards tomorrow.  Tre and Slump of UCB came thru the warehouse and styled some VMA fits this week, so be on the lookout for some DURKL Fall ‘09 on stage sunday night while UCB puts y’all onto some Go-Go.

UPTOWN XO

02 September 2009, 03.51 | Posted in DURKL | 2 comments »

Hailing from our home in the Nation’s Capitol Washington, DC, and weighing in with some of the best bars in the game is the rapper XO. Blending his soulful brand of music with gritty, real life lyrics that portray the life of a District of Columbia native, the rapper has recently seen an explosion of success linking up with rappers Oddisee and Y.U. to form the Diamond District and releasing his Studio43 album “Monumental.”  XO and the Studio43 crew stop thru the warehouse regularly to talk shop, play Sega, and make fun of me.
