Shanghai Fixed

11 June 2009, 13.34 | Posted in China | No comments »

Went to the Davy’s AIRWALK Bike Shop last nite with Daniel and Ming. Is a bit far out there location wise, so we don’t visit often enough.

Daniel was picking out his frame and color combos, something I’d just spend 5mins on. For me, just black on white frame. Keep it clean.

Ran into Tyler again, he came into fine tune his settings before going to Beijing today for the race, “Tour de Pekin”. If you want to check out what Tyler and friends are doing with their fixies in China, check out http://shanghaifixed.com

Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai : WK3

09 June 2009, 11.21 | Posted in Design | No comments »

This nice bookset came in the mail this morning from Wieden+Kennedy Shanghai.

Titled “WK3″, much like their “WK” and “WK2″ previously issued, is a retrospect on what the creative agency did in the past 12 months in China. With Nike being one of their strongest partners, loads of Nike campaigns that WK did for Nike were captured between these pages along with works the agency did with Converse as well. One of the keys to success for WK Shanghai, in my own opinion, is their dedication to work with local creators, and at the same time, use their local knowledge right. Global adaptations can only take you so far, having local knowledge can take you that extra mile.

Curated by Dong Wei, the book itself is already a fine collectible for design buffs.
Thank you, I’m keeping this one in our archive.

Devilock’s Palmboy

Something we have been working on with DEVILOCK’s Endo-san for some time now.
PALMBOY is the Japanese streetwear brand’s famous mascot.
I remember collecting its earlier vinyl figures many years ago, so it was fun for us to re-make this character’s vinyl, but this time, much bigger.

Along with vinyl figures that we love, for this collaboration, we also produced something that I personally love to wear; trucker caps. We had some fun with the graphics, having PALMBOY lying on our logo block, I’m sure he kidnapped our devil girl. 4 colorways, showing you 3 here. I know trucker caps are pretty much an Asian thing nowadays, but we’ll try to make these available in the US too.

300 of the yellow PALMBOYs have been made, we’ll have these available in early July, especially at Taipei Toy Fest. If you love Devilock as much as we do, then make sure you don’t miss out on these bad boys.

Caught on Fire, Caught on Camera

07 June 2009, 12.19 | Posted in Rants | No comments »

This happened in Cheng Du, China.
A bus, filled with passengers, caught on fire, and only 7 people managed to escape.

While there are loads of photos online about the actual fire and victims, among many questions (how did the bus caught on fire in the first place?), one question was asked: Why weren’t the people helping the scene instead of taking photos and videos with their cell phones & cameras?? Is somewhat understandable if you are a reporter (somewhat acceptable), but if you are not, then was getting content for your blogs and friends more important than helping the dying victims?? Has our society reached a point where it is all about information sharing?

Boyz from Reaction Inc

Bo Fung and Eason came up to Shanghai from GZ for the recent tradeshow. The boys’ REACTION Inc. retail shops in GZ are doing great and really giving a good vibe to the GZ sneaker scene. I’m sure they will visit Shanghai more often from now on, and I’ll be seeing them alot more.

You take care now, boyz.

Work in progress, hopefully, these will be ready for the Taipei Toy Fest in early July.

Out of our regular routine, we are working with the boyz from Mishka NYC on these monsters.
Handpainted in small quantities, just fun stuff to make.

Connection Time Out

So wait, first Blogspot got blocked, today, Twitter.
WTF?!
Seriously, this routine needs to change.

Ming took us to this Thai resturant, Bhaa Thai.
Really nice meal, and a constructive meeting got tucked inside this dinner as well.
Finally decisions were made for the new store, and rennovation got under way this morning.
SOLE GOODZ.

Since the BUKA variant from last year, we worked with Vancouver designer Tony of WRONG WROKS again this season. This YOKA variant will be released this July at Taipei Toy Fest. Hope you dig.
