PUMA’s SHANGHAI ALLEYCAT RACE

17 November 2009, 19.12 | Posted in Bikes, China, Events | No comments »

Yoyo and her Bumble Bee ride.
You thought it was a photoshop when I showed this bike a few months ago, didn’t you?!

Mike Lamborn

Hugo from DAWN (GZ)

The Shanghai Alleycat was successfully completed, thanks to everyone’s support to this event. We had about 130-140 bikes out there on the streets of Shanghai racing against time that day. It was pretty fun, even if you were just there watching it as it unfolded. This Alleycat was a bit different, because we opened this event up to “anyone with a bicycle”, no matter what type of cycling you are into, you were welcome to join the race. It was able the fun, the ride, and the meet.

This nice couple took part in the race, and actually went home with 2 awards: Second Fastest Female and the Coolest Bike Award. Note the gentleman’s ride.. it was a self-built tri-cycle. In our eyes, he was cooler than the boyz with the shiny new bikes. It was great seeing folks from all walks coming together that FREEZING afternoon. Once again, on behalf of the Shanghai Alleycat crew, big thanks to PUMA for supporting us do this, and thank you very much for coming out, and let’s do this all over again soon.

This event is for anyone with a bicycle, no matter track bikes or fixies, if you are confident to hit up all check-points faster than anyone else, we won’t care if you ride a heavy metal broken down bike! You are welcome to join!! Forget about acting cool, just come out and play.

Some friends from other cities have already booked their flight to come to this Shanghai event. Get on it, man!

A little “fan art” done up by our friends at Phenom Cycles for our studio member Yoyo, whom is a huge fan of Transformers. Is an one-off, just for kicks. Is gonna be fun watching her ride this on the streets of Shanghai, I’m sure alot of people who just go “wtf??”

Thanks to the boys at Phenom!

Bicycle Snack

Picked up Mikiro’s new ride over the weekend. Riding to the store everyday is now a bit more fun for him. Shanghai will be rainning for a week though, so I doubt we’ll ride together this week.

By way of Twitter, I came across this little design piece from Japan.
Bicycle Snack designed by STORE MUU design studio. Wouldn’t that be nice to have around the city streets?
I’m sure this will be put into good use.

Beijing Alley Cat Race

Not so much blogging these days, the studio is busy on getting new products ready for the Taipei Toy Fest next month. This is really a bad time to have new ideas, because time does not allow for the actual executions, but then you feel you wasted an opportunity.

Friends in Beijing held their first Fixed Gear Alley Cat race last week. Just saw some of the photos today via Kidulty. Afar was there, and he told us last nite that the event was orgranized nicely. Hopefully, more of these events will happen in China.

New toys for Daniel and I

Went back to Airwalk Shop to pick up our new toys over the weekend.
After a long time of decision making, Daniel ended up matching up a similar combination as me; black on white. Deep dish rims both ends, Sugino cranks, pretty much your basic Airwalk setup.

To set our 2 bikes apart, Daniel made a last minute swap to a gold front rim. He made Yu to work… Everytime we go there, Yu had to work til 12 something. Sorry, dude. You know us newbies…
