BTC Presents Action Bronson ‘Action on Fashion’

Put this piece together with the homie Action Bronson for BTC.

“Boylston Trading Co sits with Queens rapper Action Bronson to discuss his wardrobe as a youth, fashion likes, dislikes and what happened when he met American style royalty Ralph Lauren.”

18 December 2011, 03.28 | Posted in Boylston Trading Company, Video | No comments »

Action Bronson is clearly a gifted lyricist, ex career chef and a curator of fine facial hair – but Bronson has a passion for fashion.

I directed a piece for Boylston Trading Co called ‘Action on Fashion’ that will premier next week.

Funny stuff.

It’s Diggy.

I couldn’t imagine being the son of one of Hip-Hop’s living royalty and navigating your youth with the understanding that your dad’s contributions helped shape the landscape of popular music. We’ve all seen Diggy grow from a happy-go-lucky pre-teen to a bonafide fashion obsessed wanna-be rapper. Then one day he dropped a freestyle over the Nas “gun at the party” opus Made You Look and the world started to see him as more than a young heir with time on his hands, he actually was spittin’ and was good at it.

I had the pleasure of interviewing Diggy for Karmaloop TV and was pleasantly surprised at how down to earth and personable he was. With all the pressure of proving he is an artist on his own merit and balancing the fact that he’s been famous for quite some time now, he gave off a quiet air of balance that is a rarity amongst young stars. Talented, a good head on his shoulders and a passion to create –

The reverend raised him right.

Shouts to the incredible Karmaloop TV Boston team – Gabe, Chelsea & Alex – for making me feel like a part of the team from day 1. Much appreciated.

Karmaloop is launching a cable network in the very near future and asked friends and employees to create “Reclaim your TV” pieces in honor of the new site. I thought it would be cool to do something different and more reflective of my personality. HA.

Shouts to Kylar who is the artist behind the madness, Chloe for the Japanese tutoring and Jei, Billy and Shelton for sacrificing their lives in the name of entertainment.

Please go to the Reclaim site and search for “Frank The Butcher” and vote for my video.

Karmaloop TV | 360 with Wale

20 May 2011, 19.21 | Posted in Music, Video | No comments »

Peep this new interview series I’m directing for Karmaloop TV with our first guest Wale.

Join us as we catch up with Wale on the eve of his Maybach Music debut as we talk about his new label, the competitiveness of his new team, Kid Cudi reconciliation and what 600 Benz really means.

Ralph Folarin

Wale introduced himself to the masses at an interesting time in Hip-Hop. While using the web wasn’t a new way for artists to break music, they were beginning to leverage online popularity and turning it into major label opportunities.

Wale joined Drizzy and Cudder on the trip from the farm league minors to the big show. Drake joined Lil Wayne’s Young Money collective while Cudi linked with Kanye’s Good Music team — both affiliations proved to be the fuel needed to kick both careers into high gear.

Mr. Folarin did it on his own and for the most part, on his own terms.

If phase one was internet assisted independence and phase two was signing on the dotted line, then phase three is joining the juggernaut movement that is Rick Ross’ Maybach Music Group. Different platform but the same message delivered with invigorated enthusiasm.

As unlikely as it may have seemed at the time, Wale’s new partnership has proven to be as fruitful as it is exciting. ‘Play Your Part’, ‘Pandemonium’, ‘600 Benz’ and ‘By Any Means’ make it clear that Wale and friends, Meek Mill, Pill and of course Rozay, are on a quest to own the summer.

Maybach Music’s ‘Self Made’ due May 23rd

Wale invited me down to a studio session while in Boston where I interviewed him and Black Cobain for Karmaloop TV. Interview coming soon.

Black Cobain is up next.

Frank The Butcher & Statik Selektah Present “Concepts: Selektions” Mixtape

Frank The Butcher & Statik Selektah have joined forces on “Concepts: Selektions”. This mixtape is inspired by seminal classic 90’s mixtapes like DJ Doo Wop’s “Live 95″ & Tony Touch’s “50 MCs”. Frank The Butcher worked with Statik on “selecting” some of his most classic beats and revisiting them with new emcees and new lyrics. The tape features veterans like DJ Doo Wop, Dj Clark Kent, Freeway, and Consequence– underground favorites like Detroit’s Black Milk and La Coka Nostra’s Ill Bill– while also featuring lyricists like Curt@!n$, Willie The Kid, Termanology and Ro Spit — and more– all featured over Statik Selektah production.

Chace Infinite of Self Scientific / Soul Assassins is the first song to be release. The video was directed by Frank The Butcher and filmed in the L.E.S.N.Y.C. at the Prohibit Boutique on Allen street.

Frank The Butcher & Statik Selektah Present “Concepts: Selektions” Mixtape will be released in January and features 26 tracks.
