I had the pleasure of watching this project develop from a conversation with my brother Rick Williams of Burn Rubber, to a sample, and now a release. Rick did it again — he took the 580 and made magic happen. Lighting does strike twice. The ‘Workforce’ pack will drop in 2 releases – The ‘Blue Collar’ will release Feb 1st with the ‘White Collar’ dropping a month later. Both available on Burn Rubber site.

My brother Rick Williams, co owner and creative director of Burn Rubber, has developed a new brand and creative outlet in the form of Distinct Life. Rick’s first collaborative project features his custom camo print on a Quinton cap and a Burn Rubber Tee. Rick is one of the most creative dudes I know and his new venture is shaping up to be something great.

I was at Agenda in San Diego a couple years back when I met these 2 Detroit boys– Rick and Ro. It started as the normal “dope shop”, “good stuff”, “blah blah blah” and all that non sense courtesy babble you have with people at trade shows. We stayed in touch and it has become a real friendship — those 2 dudes from Detroit are now my brothers.

Rick and I talk everyday about design, family and life. When I talk to Rick I can hear the passion for design and success. He has a drive and will to grow that is contagious. He keeps me on my toes and reminds me why we do this.

I remember picking up those Burn Rubber guys at the airport in Boston to bring them over to New Balance. Rick had every detail of the shoe covered — model, color and material. While I talked shit and distracted everyone, Rick slid in and created one of the best New Balance collaborations in recent history. An amazing shoe from an amazing brand and shop.

To my brothers— the first “one” is special but may your last “one” always be the your best “one”. I’m am looking forward to your next best “one”!

My family from Detroit came through last week because they were (…this section is secret…) and its going to be amazing. Burn Rubber is fam and are quickly becoming one of the best shops in the Midwest.

Before the first day of the Magic / Project / Capsule run in Vegas, I charged the ol’ battery with my good friend Rick Williams co-owner of the Burn Rubber Sneaker Boutique that runs the “Motor City”. I learned a few things that morning.

1. Rick knows what is “ill” and what is not “ill” the same way I know when Chedda is violently drunk (meaning ready to beat an innocent bystander’s face open in the club because he could of sworn he was eyeing him from the DJ booth. He was the DJ and was just trying to play records Chedd.)

2. He like grape jelly on his eggs.

3. As being a prescription eyeglass wearer myself on the constant hunt for the flyest frames, Rick was one step ahead of me with the Fragment designed Uniform Experiment frames. Fucking dope.

4. Detroit dudes don’t ever travel alone. Shouts to Ro Spit and the goons… “BA got caught with….?”

Side note: be careful when your in Pontiac, Michigan. Nuff said.
