Absolut Stockholm…

03 November 2009, 00.18 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

This past weekend we were invited by Absolut Vodka to attend the celebration of the Absolut Art Collection in Stockholm, Sweden. Having been an active fan (!) of the brand for some years now, we could of course not decline the invitation.

Friday started with a presentation by Absolut. We were given a brief history of the brand. Absolut is 30 years old and was until very recently state owned, which made their approach to design and advertising only more impressive. It was also nice to see the comparison of the bottle with competitors 30 years ago and today, which made you realize how timeless that design really is, or maybe how progressive it was at the time.

Then a nice gathering and lunch followed. The whole event took place at the Lydmar Hotel in Stockholm, a super nice design hotel. We can only suggest it for your next stay in the city.

After the lunch we came to the actual topics of the trip – The Absolut Art Collection. In the last 30 years Absolut amassed over 800 artworks done by artists from all around the globe for them. They started with Warhol and continued with Haring and the list only continues as impressive. For the event in Stockholm they invited some of their artist collaborators, including David Shrigley, Silvie Fleury and others. A panel discussion about Commissioned Art – Career Boost or Sell Out took place. It was great hearing some actual artists address the topic. Funnily it does not seem to be a problem for most of them, as long as they can keep their artistic freedom.

In the afternoon we had the opportunity to have longer conversations with David Shrigley and Silvie Fleury. More on that soon!

The New Highsnobiety.com

22 September 2008, 12.30 | Posted in Highsnobiety.com | 2 comments »

Well, it is that time again. We changed website design for the 4th time in our short history. We started in 2005 with Blogspot, moved on to Wordpress, then to Typo3 and now once again to a new system. The main reason for the re-design had to do with the backend. We need something more convenient, especially for our Columnists and I think (hope) we achieved that.

Overall the new site is more user friendly. The second idea was, making sure that the site, while mainly delivering news on the frontpage, also shows how much else there is, which was not really the case on the old design. Aside from the news we work hard on weekly interview features and our columnists also always have interesting things to say. Thus we wanted to make sure that you readers out there also see that, and we added the preview box on the frontpage.

As you might have noticed we also have a new logo. The idea was to stick to the stamp idea, as many people out there already associate us with that. Benny Gold was nice enough to take care of the new logo and we are super happy with the outcome.

The features now look nicer and have actual pages. On the old site they looked like long blogposts, but with all the work that goes into them, we wanted to give them a better feel and look. Hopefully we achieved that this time.

A coupe of things are still missing, such as some of the older features and the shopguide. We are working hard on bringing that back very soon.

Otherwise, we hope you enjoy the new Highsnobiety.com. Tips are always welcome, just leave a comment or use the contact form!
