Alex Flach (1974), a.k.a. Foley, was born and raised in West Berlin, back in the days when the Berlin wall still cast a shadow. 1988 was an important year for Alex as that is when he first started skateboarding, a passion which lasted 12 years. After Alex finished school he started a three year apprenticeship at an Insurance Company. It was during this time that he was first drawn to photography and he started taking pictures randomly with his parent’s camera. In 1996, Alex bought his first camera and after a six month trip around the United States in a camper van, he returned to Berlin. A turning point in Alex’s career was joining Lodown magazine, which he has been a part of since issue number 1 in 1995. In 1998 Alex became the photo editor. In addition to shooting pictures, Alex has branched out and has done video projects and worked as a director and cinematographer for clients such as Lodown, Carhartt Europe, Sony Music and Nokia.
Alex’s images have been published in all the major European skateboard magazines in the last 10 years, and his photographs have been published in several German and European lifestyle magazines . Among his clients are Levi`s , Adidas, Vans, Spiewak, Nike and Etnies. In 2005 Alex was commissioned by Soletech to supervise their 20th anniversary book project.
Through Alex’s work as a freelance photographer he has had a chance to shoot photos all over Europe, North America, Tokyo, South Africa and Egypt.
