EXCLUSIVE!!
DJ Dstar came on my radar this past summer through a discobelle mix with creative cutting, mixing and a healthy dose of exclusive remixing. He just relocated to CT and I’ve been emailing the young for exclusive remixes…..

Here’s his excellent discobelle mix. Dstar edits of lil wayne, tricky , Hoods up! are bangers and there’s also tracks from Crookers, DJ Sega, Thunderheist & more in his mix.

Here’s an EXCLUSIVE mix of The Martin Brothers “Dum” (Dstar L-ion remix) just for our esteemed High Snobiety readers.

Target rips off bodega, and nyc fashion week

target bodega
“Taking a page from the original Bodega shop in Boston, Bullseye Bodega

full article from coolhunting
Before I got tossed from FUCKED UP’s set at Mishka’s 5 year party,  I run into the corporate ripoff above.   I created the original Bodega with my two partners about 3 years ago to much praise, haterade & success. Everyone in the retail, design and ad worlds was(and is) talking about the achievement of creating an entirely hidden non-advertised space that works & works well. To innovate on something as staid as retail is a pretty big thing, but to be able to create something that the world TALKS about (w/o the benefit of ANY press releases) is a humbling & invigorating experience. It’s especially interesting because it is located in the conservative, segregated, ass-backwards commonwealth of Boston, where the worlds of fashion, media and art have very little impact with it’s massively unsophisticated student /blue blood population. It’s currently a cultural void in transition.

Anyways, brother DJ Baltimoroder(Dopamine, Hearthrob) dug around and found the “brooklyn-based design group” who took our concept and sold it out.

Hey David, if you wanted to use our ideas, just ask. But don’t steal & sell it in the market where we work(limited edition/pop up shops…colette x gap anyone?) It’s crass, lame, and the worst part is, it shows your lack of vision and creativity. Maybe you should concentrate on your “Corporate Event planning” services and fold napkins for fucking K-mart’s shareholder meeting. Don’t forget those bacon wrapped scallops they like so much (bitch).  Also, you used the exact font treatment from our Client login(07) for signage… Nice touch.

All you corporate heads reading this. Please hire David Stark Design. They do an amazing job at appropriating other people’s work.

Back to nyc,  where i got to see scenes from the new Muppets Movie -tentatively named “Letters to Santa,” being filmed in Brooklyn Heights. Jim Henson is dead, but the prop lady unceremoniously put all the muppets on a table and adjusted Ms. Piggy w/ a cigarette dangling out the corner of her mouth. I watched with glee surrounded by children.

The runway shows of note were Alexander Wang(straight gangsta), Ralph Lauren (huge collections of classic american) and Marc Jacobs. My favorite was the dramatic rooftop Wood Wood show with the terrible DJ. Malin & crew are great hosts and I regret turning down the helicopter ride home.

Fader magazine has the video of Wood Wood’s rooftop extravaganza here.

Lastly ,  Homey  Mighty Mi, from HIgh & Mighty (Eastern Conference Records) was kind enough to host Bodega & Air Rev when we were out in Las Vegas 2 weeks ago.  A veteran DJ through and through, he deserves all the success that’s coming.   Here’s a club banging remix he did w/ Steve1der  Electric touch( MGMT vs Kanye )at 192kbps for your downloading pleasure.

Check him out when you’re in Vegas.

 me

The words & ideas that will be put forth are not that of Bodega, but myself, although I am one-third of bodega, and one-fourth of our design gang.   I also DJ as Gucci Vuitton and have recently joined forces with DJ Kon (BBE/ Kings of Digging) for a creative multidisciplinary duo (un)creatively named Kon+Vuitton.

With that out of the way,  I woke up a bit hungover around 8:30 AM to a rainy Cambridge morning, put on last night’s clothes, and proceeded to get my daily coffee from a punker named Jen.  We had a conversation about the historical context of why a majority of African Americans are afraid of dogs.   For those that aren’t familiar with history, dogs were traditionally used to attack & instill fear by slave owners and police forces from the Dark Days of our country through the civil rights revolution.  I also pointed out that media has been successful in  confusing mainstream thought by combining racist skinhead with your average thinking Punk throughout innumerable telecasts & writings.

Anyways, Leonard Cohen was playing in the cafe (Toscaninni’s – named world’s best ice cream by the sometimes erroneous, yet respected New York Times) as we sat and pieced together last night.

Mishka and LAB threw a party in the neighborhood at enormous room w/ Lauren Flax and Redd Foxx DJ’d. I actually have this very blog because of the party. Greg from Mishka is becoming a great friend as we threw Colt 45 tall boys at a wall for an hour in a San Diego warehouse while Early Man played face melting metal. I also had the pleasure of working out of the Mishka NYC office as I stayed in New York to attend the runway shows during fashion week(sidenote: models are bit too thin & tall for me ).

I got thrown out of Mishka’s 5 year anniversary party where DJ wunderkinds Drop the Lime and Diplo manned the helms followed by the pure rock and roll machine known simply as FUCKED UP (toronto).  FUCKED UP once played an unofficial show at SXSW on a wooden bridge that almost collapsed from the sheer amount of people that showed up.    I didn’t fight being thrown out as I did deserve to be thrown out earlier- they just got me for the wrong charges.   NYC banned smoking so I kept my ciggies on the low and puffed during the chaos.   I also DID spray beer at one of the bouncers who was being rough on the members of the pit – club bouncers sometimes panic at punk/hardcore shows if they don’t understand pit politics.    BUT, i got tossed simply because i was pogo’ing at the wrong place at the wrong time.   The bouncer thought i had poured beer on him and i was escorted out.  I used to bounce at the middle east so I understand the delicate dance of the Door.   I left with no hassle but informed our large friend that he got the wrong guy – “because if it was me, the beer would’ve been full and it would’ve been at your FUCKING HEAD.”

Sidenote 2:   FUCKED UP also played DQM’s 5 year anniversary later that week.   Them dudes were like, D’oh!
