It’s all about the product !

Jeff Bezos to Charlie Rose:

“Before if you were making a product, the right business strategy was to put 70% of your attention, energy, and dollars into shouting about a product, and 30% into making a great product. So you could win with a mediocre product, if you were a good enough marketer. That is getting harder to do. The balance of power is shifting toward consumers and away from companies…the individual is empowered… The right way to respond to this if you are a company is to put the vast majority of your energy, attention and dollars into building a great product or service and put a smaller amount into shouting about it, marketing it. If I build a great product or service, my customers will tell each other.”

Great wisdom that you can apply to art, music, brand and pretty much any modern businesses … Make it good !

Recently got this very cool report from the also very cool futurehit.dna website. The report linked to an interesting chart; the top words in the lyrics of the top 50 selling song of 2010. See below.

Made me wonder how would it looks like by applying this to the music blogs charts for example. Even if it would be a bit brooklyn oriented, i decided to use the most popular song of 2009 from Hypemachine.

Top 2009 Hypemachine songs:

So its interesting to know that if you write a song in order to reach the itunes charts, you might want to title it “Oh Baby Wanna love like Oh”. And if you want to break on the blogosphere first you might consider producing a “Lil wayne Brooklyn remix”
Lets try with some niche genre now , here is the result when applied to the Egotrip book of rap list best single 1988:

So i guess a perfect title song would had been “Mc Funky Featuring sugar bitch” and here is the top punk single list.

“Young white radio wanna fuck Holliday city”

SIgn of the times ?
