Ontour

Swoon and Poncho in Mu

Hello World. First post for HighSnob! Looking forward to show you what’s happening in The Netherlands, Eindhoven represent. I will be dropping posts about stuff that keeps me smiling in daily life. Expect some reports about our own label and all the shit that’s happening to keep this business running, interviews with some bad-ass creatives around me, their works, gallery and shops visits, some serious parties, crazy movies, my heroes and other random stuff that’s just too good not to be shown. Enjoy.

Some paper and scissors have the honour to be the subject of my first blog post…We went to check out the opening of Swoon and Poncho at art gallery MU in the centre of Eindhoven. Paper-cut artist Swoon, whose home base is Brooklyn and stencil artist Poncho from Chiapas in the southeast of Mexico, have joined forces to show the ever-growing divide between rich and poor, between power and powerlessness, between the US and Mexico.

The whole exposition was made out of cardboard and paper and in some pieces the different worlds of Western street art and Mexican murals fused nicely together. I wasn’t blown away to be honest, but that’s also because my expectations of the shows in MU are quite high, because of the expo’s they’ve organised in the past (more on that later!).

Anyways, I had a good night with some of our friends, like the ever evil E, Mr. Cosmic Crack himself.

And finally ended up in one of the dodgiest but nicest bars in Eindhoven: LaFolie.

Well here a bit more background about this gallery MU. You should check out their site and have a look at the exhibitions they’ve curated in the past:

Quite an impressive list of names they brought to this small city if you ask me;

Kim Gordon, Spike Jonze, Mark Gonzales (2000), Delta, Aaron Rose (2001), Kaws, Space3 (2002), Ben Drury, Futura, Stash, Betamaxxx(2003), Mike Mills (2004), Cosmic Wonder (2005), Ari Marcopoulos (2006), 2K, Peter Sutherland (2007) to name a few! Here some picts of some of these expos (made by MU):
