Preview The Changes…

30 October 2008, 10.41 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Yesterday I went to the MU Gallery to have a preview of The Changes exhibition that will open tommorow evening and sat down with Shauna, Misha, Fergus and Sk8thing (stand-in) to have a talk. The interview
will be up in the Feature section soon and today I’ll go back for some more photo’s of this amazing installation made out of lightboxes…yesterday it was not possible to switch the lightboxes on, so looking forward to see that on full effect. It already looked impressive so I’d like to share some picts of yesterday, the work in progress and ofcourse the artists themselves!

All work is new and made especially for this exhibition, the big screenprints and all lightboxes where made in Eindhoven last week. Also a really nice publication by Pambooks - MU - Nieves from The Changes is ready  and friday evening they will DJ themselves and throw a party afterwards in bar The Hoogste Tijd for which they’ve invited Thomas Bullock from Rub-n-Tug for a liveset! Dresscode Halloween…

Enough talking, here some first visuals..more to come! The Changes:

Last weekend we had another look around at what was poppin at the Dutch Design Week. My friends Peter, Sebaske and his Misses came over for some old Gramma style partying, but they’ve already made a feature about that so I’ll stick to the design and art stuff…On sundays Danny on the Moon and Hanna joined so it was a very nice busy weekend after all…here some highlights:

First went to see the Lift Off exhibition and one of the best works we’ve seen this week was from Christoph Brach and Daniera ter Haar. They made this ‘M2-M3′ exhibition all based on the most basic shapes, the square, triangle and circle working only with coloured paper as material. They play with the 3D effect of 2D surfaces just by cutting and folding and create a very strong esthetic. The images you see are photographs of colored paper placed and folded on top of each other, the shadows and reflections create this image, no photoshop used!

Lucy and Bart invited their audience for some LowTech Plastic Surgery:

On friday evening the event at Dings:

On saturdays we went to the Strijp area and saw the Stuffed exhibition, that was really nice:

Talent 2008 exhibition at the Design Huis:

Studio Jo Meesters:

A new store run by Emily Hermans on Strijp-X with some Ontour presence:

In the evening on sunday we all went to see Daniel Johnston in the Effenaar…a great end of the weekend:

So that was DDW2008 for us…time to create again!

The Times They Are The Changes

Last week Misha and Shauna, better known as Perks and Mini arrived here in Eindhoven to work on their exhibition that will open coming friday here in MU Gallery. Fergus Purcell, aka Fergadelic, joined the gang today. Another member of their collective ‘The Changes’ is Sk8thing from Tokyo and friday will be kick off for their European tour! I’m a really big fan of all of their works and really excited that they’re all together in this town now. My girlfriend saw a small exhibition from The Changes a few years ago in Milan in the Slam Jam store and brought me a small poster book and a cd…dope dope stuff.

My friends CrackRock and Rop are helping them now building up the show and told me today it’s going to be very good. So tommorow I’m going to take a look myself and take some picts of the work in progress over there and give you a small preview…

If you don’t know about PAM, Tonite and Sk8thing…start reading and be amazed by their talents and the works they’ve been making last decade. A special catalogue made with Nieves and PAM books will be available plus some new tees, don’t miss out on this one! For now, the official press text and more to come very soon!

A collective as a band, a band that’s not making music but applying itself to image sampling and mixing. That’s who The Changes are. ‘The Times they are The Changes’, to paraphrase Bob Dylan, and so music leaves the field for image, film and – yes, a bit of – sound. After gigs in Milan, Tokyo, and Los Angeles, The Changes are now ready for a European tour, which kicks off at MU. Their overpowering image concert promises to be a mixture between a psychedelic campfire and a mysterious advertising pillar.

Departing from backgrounds in fashion, graphic design, pop, and art, the four band members have for a couple of years now applied themselves with sincere commitment and boundless passion for association to the magic of the autodidactic underground. In their interventions, the influence of and the experience with the CULTural explosions of the ‘80s and ‘90s - rave, metal, acid, punk, freak-out, rainbow, black, silver, gold, latex, leather, and denim - merge into a redefinition of the present, a joyful, comic explosion, pulsating with energy and positivism.

The Changes are Roland Korg, Boohoo Haha, Aries Overload, and Vertical Doorway. To those who don’t know these names as yet, I’d say, think of Misha Hollenbach and Shauna T, better known as Perks & Mini from Melbourne, Fergus Purcell from London, better known as Fergadelic, and Sk8thing from Tokyo. The exhibition is accompanied by a special catalogue published in collaboration with Nieves and PAM Books, and a unique edition of T-shirts

The Times They Are The Changes opens on Friday October 31, 20.00h at MU.
Our special guest for the evening would be DJ Thomas Bullock, together with The Changes they will play live.
Dresscode: Halloween.

Porntour

I know I’m late on this one, cause it has been posted on RTL Boulevard already, but hey it’s hard to beat these papparrazi and apparently this blog article was very successful on their site so people are very interested in this market…

Do you remember the blog post I put up about this guy wearing our sweater and being surrounded by these famous girls from the adult industry? Well, our reaction to his pictures was: you shouldn’t be wearing our stuff but the girls should! He took this task very serious and shoot off to this porn event in Berlin a few weeks ago….and look what we’ve found in our inbox the other week…

This is just a tip of the iceberg…Katsumi, Jesse Jane, Tera Patrick and the whole Digital Playground team are wearing our hoodies now. They say it keeps them really warm on the set. So next time you’re watching your favourite movies, keep an eye open for Ontour in the background.

This is also an instant classic that will be nominated for some oscars!

Now instore!

A Fresh day

23 October 2008, 23.53 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Last monday I visited the Fresh office for the shoot of our collection and just to hang with the goood peeps over there. We asked Nobody Beats the Drum and La melodia to model for us, because we also set up a small give away pack with them, more about that later. Here you see Mel and Nina doing some serious modelling in the Freshcotton studio with the lovely Tuna assisting and Darnell making the fresh picts:

Friso was also there working on the new designs for their inhouse Freshcotton label, here a preview:

Oh, and these guys:

Indeed, Bolland and Bolland from the Freshcotton RTL Boulevard. Calling me a pussy when it comes to partying, but being over there I found out what they’ve been doing that weekend…both being broke as hell they had to beg their friends for some money to survive the weekend and buy the last 2 beers they could affort. And when they found out that they were not on the guestlist anywhere, they stayed at home crying in bed, catching some mosquitos as you can see at their weekend randoms

So just look at these starved eyes and how happy they were they could buy lunch again on this monday from their bosses money instead of eating dry crackers with peanutbutter. As you can see at how tight Bolland holds the bag with food there was no chance I could get a small piece of it. I also noticed that now their direct boss Mr Smit is not around the only thing they do is looking for hours for the best lunch they can find in the area and ‘by accident’ walking into the photostudio just when our female models are undressed, asking me if they already have a boyfriend…

Well, I’ve got to forgive them. Just look at them. But one warning: Don’t feed them or buy them drinks, cause you won’t get anything back!
