A few weeks ago MU gallery celebrated their 10th birthday with a nice party. Here some picts from the talented Boudewijn Bollmann from that nice evening. Our friend and topmodel halfoor Rop will be presenting his 2 projects at the Design Academy graduation show starting coming saturday. One of them is the Leaf House animation that I’ve shown before on this blog. The other one is Bonsai and Poodles, a super dope book with illustrations, aquarel works and other weird stuff. Saturday the Design Week kicks off over here and on saturday immediately some of the best events. We’re all waiting to have this publication in our hands: Scrapbook, overview of 20 years EHV streetart by Space3, Crackrock and Erosie, supported by Freek Lomme. Last friday the Zedz expo opened at Manana Gallery Rotterdam (see previous post)…I couldn’t be there because of the 10 year MU event here in Eindhoven (pictures of that later) but here some impressions from the Manana clique:

Looking good! So when you’re in the area have a look at the expo (wednesday - sunday) and the shop on sundays…Witte de With straat!

2 countries, 6 cities and 3 bands in 2 weeks…kick off in Eindhoven! Besides the 3 bands some nice support acts like Boemklatsch and The Freshest Kidz.

Besides the party’s for free and here in the Effenaar on a thursday night, so instead of doing this come join us and do this on the 6th of November. We have some tickets left in our office (in case it gets full) so just drop by and pick them up. More info and registration here!

Apparently we’re the chosen ones in Holland by all the big company ‘designers’ when looking for inspiration for their new collections….here another nice example of some copy pasting by the very cool chain stores Cool Cat…See our design from our SS08 collection and look at their variation and find the differences! This becomes quite a nice game, right? The way we made that design about one and a half year ago was that I made this quick sketch up of those letters and Etienne made them 3D in Rhino (3D computer program) and used them as a line drawing, repeated 3 times in a nice colour combo…Hmmmm, I gues it was just a question of some old tracing paper for these top designers! Still these cool cats managed to fuck the design up and made the print just a little too small and use a bad ass font style:

In 2005 me and my girlfriend saw this Dutch documentary about Daniel Johnston from one of the best Dutch art / music programmes R.A.M. (that doesn’t exis anymore, a shame). When we saw this we didn’t really know a lot about Daniel Johnston, only saw Kurt Cubain a few times with this t-shirt. This documentary made a big impact on both of us:

After seeing this we’ve been listening to his songs and following his releases and projects. When you don’t know about him, you should read about his life and start listening to his work (and he made a lot) and you’ll start to understand why people call him the best kept secret from the American music scene and why people like Beck, Tom Waits, Eels covered his songs. The more you listen to his ’simple’ songs the more beautiful they get and you start to appreciate and feel the uniqueness and the genius behind all of them. For the dutch readers here is a short background to that documentary.

The best thing is…he will be performing here in Eindhoven the 26th of October in the Effenaar! I think this will be an amazing night, so I advice to buy some tickets. Besides music, Daniel also is an amazing artist and in the movie The Devil and Daniel Johnston, you can see and hear his beautiful pieces. Here some of his drawings and a small clip form the movie:

Menno, the man behind Dings and t-shu, is cleaning up his house…and instead of using a garbagecan he’s displaying his ‘junk’ behind glass in his store. This guy has an obsession with the Air Max and number 42…read all about the T-Shu 42 auction here! Check the value and start placing your bid…

For the Dutch Design Week next week, he’s got another event up his sleeve, wrapping his warehouse in cardboard and lock up some artists in there and see what the result will be after 1 week. We’ll go and have a look over there:

Frontline just sended me this invite for the German Beautiful Losers preview they organise. In 4 days the movie will be shown in different locations throughout Germany, together with an aftershow party every evening! Sounds good to me…more info here.
