New York Minute

10 October 2009, 11.40 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

We’re just back from our holiday in Italy, where we visited Rome, Napels and the Sorrento coast. Had a very relaxed time and the last 2 days of our holiday we were back in Rome to visit some galleries. When we visited Macro museum we heard that the travelling expo New York Minute was in town. The opening was just a couple of days earlier in Macro Future, a new space of the museum on the other side of town. Curated by Deitch Projects’ Director, Kathy Grayson, it features a selection of sixty artists from the New York scene.

We went there on sunday evening to have a look at the works of Dan Colen, Neckface, DearRainDrop, Paper Rad, Barry McGee, Chris Johanson, Dash Snow, Ryan McGinley, Taylor McKimens, Scott Campbell, Steve Powers, Tauba Auerbach, and Terence Koh amongst others. The space itself, an old slaughterhouse now filled with all the artworks worked really well. Have a look at the pictures…

Aaron Bondaroff’s shop selling all the fanzines, records, stickers, t-shirts and books produced by the participating artists:

Just back from my holidays, more about that later. The weekend before me and Hilde left to Italy we had the final stops of our Minitour. Some nice evenings and P to the ARTY so here some impressions of the good times.

At thursday we started in Rotterdam at Daily Rush :

Fridays we did a little block party in Haarlem at Revert :

And on saturdays we closed the tour in style with Ben-G when we released our Ying Yang pack and partied at Meneer de Wit (Pop Up Cafe) hosted by Streetlab :

This is funny: these guys are mimicking the YingYang logo themselves:

After this night it was time to go on holiday! Thanks to everybody who visited the tours, thanks to the stores, the dj’s, Eline, Streetlab, Vedett, Southern Comfort, and everybody else I forgot.

Release Ben-G x Ontour

09 September 2009, 11.00 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Coming saturday we’ll release the package we’ve been talking about and working on with Ben-G for a while. We’ve done some previews already, but finally it’s here and for sale this weekend! The time to release this Ying Yang package just felt right; as part of our ‘This & That’ collection and as a grand finale to finish our Minitour it all comes together…as if it’s all part of a greater whole, talking in the nature of Ying and Yang haha..

The package consists of a 15″ laptop bag (available in 2 colors) in which our Ying Yang tee is packaged. This complete package will be available at Ben-G and a few selected retailers and will go for not even 50 euros! Besides we’ll drop a nice little mixtape of our favourite tracks together with Beesmunt very soon. Here some picts of the bags and tee:

Some details:

Attention: the release this saturday won’t be at the Ben-G store itself, but we’ve found a location where we can close the minitour in a way it should be closed…

We like to invite you to join us for drinks, music and the release of this pack at:

Streetlab_Projectspace
Meneer de Wit (Pop Up Cafe)
Postjesweg 2
1057 EA Amsterdam

Starts at 19 hrs and we’ll stop when the drinks are gone and our favourite dj’s don’t know what to play anymore! See you saturday!!

Freshcotton x Breg Hanssen x Ontour

09 September 2009, 02.51 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Our friends from Freshcotton released our new collection online this week and as always we’ve come up with a special colab project. This time we approached the talented Breg Hanssen who we still knew from our years in the Design Academy. Already at that time he was working with bikes and we remember him custom building bikes during the Dutch Design Week in 2006. We were impressed and thought the launch at Freshcotton would be a nice opportunity to do something together…and we did!

This week only this special made up Freshcotton x Breg Hanssen x Ontour can be won when buying pieces from our new line here. One golden key will be added in the orders and we’re already jealous about who’s going to be the lucky winner this time! With pain in our hearts we’ll give away this beautiful fixed / free bike that’s still in our office right now. Have a look for all the details of this competition and all specs of the bike here…..Good luck!

For those who’ll have bad luck, have a look at Breg Hanssen Bike site and build your own favourite piece.

Into the Great Wide Open

09 September 2009, 01.44 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

I’ve been doing quite some festivals this summer and last weekend was another Great one. A new festival in Holland and the location itself already got me excited…Vlieland, one of the Dutch Wadden Islands hosted the first edition of Into the Great Wide Open.

With ‘only’ 4000 visitors it was sold out and we were one of the lucky ones to cross the sea to have a look. On the boat it started out quite rainy and windy…

But as soon as we got the island itself on the radar, the weather got better and better.

One of the nice things about this festival was the completely different experience of going there in the first place; strolling across the island, people renting a bike to get from the boat to the festival, no queuing up lowlands style.

We rented a ’sleeping boat’, a small ship with 8 rooms to crash at night.

First we took the local puppy out for a walk on the beach:

We didn’t fell a sleep and it was festival time!

This is how the average Vlielander looks like:

This is how the average Amsterdammer looks like (hardly any difference):

Into the Woods:

There were lots of nice alternative indie plays playing during the day, but the act that made me decide to go here was in fact The Legendary DJ Derek…for those who have been to lowlands in 2008 maybe remember his his performance in the Groovetube on sundays…a classic and was an instant fan. I’ve been playing one of his mixtapes this year and it was great to see him back on saturday evening!

Wild animals on sundays:

I really enjoyed the Danish Efterklang, great live performance:

Besides acts on the mainstage in between the woods, there were also lots of nice side events in the village itself, like the local church that was transformed into a stage:

Great weekend, we’ll be back next year! Right ladies?

Minitour - part1

Last weekend I was camping at Lowlands festival, but here’s a recap from the start of our minitour across the country to launch our new AW09 ‘This&That Ontour’ collection, from the weekend before.

First stop at Dings on fridays:

Second stop at Re-Issue on saturdays:

The tourmanager likes to thanks everybody who helped us organise the first 2 stops, with special thanks to Vedett, Southern Comfort, Y’skid and ofcourse the crews of Dings and Re-Issue. Some more shots here, here here and here

Getting ready for the next stops in Rotterdam, Haarlem and Amsterdam.
