Mark Owens is a designer, writer and filmmaker working between Los Angeles and New York. In 2005 he established his studio, Life of the Mind, which pursues conceptually based projects in print, motion, and apparel design with a sideline in writing and curating. His work draws on influences ranging from Godard to postpunk, offering a pop-critical engagement with architecture, urbanism, music, and language. He has created designs for clothing lines like Generic Costume, 2K, and Commonwealth Stacks, as well as work for MTV, VH1, and a host of cultural clients. His writings have appeared in the pages of Visual Communication, Grafik, and the postpunk / Marxist journal Dot Dot Dot.
