“A bizarre travelogue into dramatic architecture” by National Forest.

27 August 2009, 11.32 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

National Forest is a graphic studio formed by American artists Steven Harrington and Justin Krietemeyer.

For our time-scanning Autumn/Winter 09 line, they designed a very specific capsule-collection homage to Superstudio’s Fundamental Acts series.

Created from 1971 to 1973, the “Fundamental Acts” were a series of 5 experimental movies centred on the relations between architecture as a conscious formalization of the planet, and human life.

The whole series was based on Gustav Freytag’s classical dramatic structure. Each video made a natural progression into the following five acts:

-The exposition

-The rising action

-The climax (or turning point)

-The falling action

-The Catastrophe

National Forest has adapted this dramatic pyramid structure to our clothing line.

The line is composed of five surprising and radical pieces: Life-Youth-Ceremony-Love- Death.

With this new collection, National Forest has showed us a new and darker side of their work:

“A bizarre travelogue into dramatic architecture”

The line is now available online here.

DC Life x Sixpack France x Akroe x Official Launch x Paris.

24 August 2009, 18.35 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

DC Shoes Europe is proud to announce the launch of its latest Double Label Project along with a retrospective exhibition during the whole month of September at the new gallery L’IMPRIMERIE, Paris.

During this month, DC will have on exhibition a retrospective of all DC Artist, Double Label and Remix Projects from the past decade. Some of these exclusive and limited projects will also be on sale for the first and only time.

As for our Double Label™ signature collaboration for Fall 2009, the DC x Sixpack France Double Label™ collection marks the most extensive project to date for the DC brand, consisting of men’s footwear and apparel. This premiere collection is slated as the first of many that will run over several seasons.

Dubbed “Non Merci”, the Sixpack France collection designed by Akroe, draws from inspirations that cross political borders, embraces impossible love and yet harbors deep resentment. Meaning “no thanks” in French, the translation of “Non Merci” can also be interpreted as “I’m over it”. Drawing from the love-hate relationship that shadows US- French relations on all levels, “Non Merci” implies an elegant arrogance, which while being courteous, implies superiority.

For the project, the symbol of this mindset is a beautiful blonde model that exudes “Non Merci”, placing her on an untouchable pedestal as an object of desire. Her image is displayed across the collection’s footwear and apparel.

This concept will be realised in a live display during the month of September at “L’Imprimerie”. The gallery is located at the crossroads of two of the most artistic and cultural areas of Paris: Les Halles and Le Marais. The perfect location for this launch.

The program for the month will be celebrated with the following exhibition openings with various DC limited edition products being introduced.

WEDNESDAY 2nd of September, Official Opening of the DC L’IMPRIMERIE and official launch of SixPack France   “Non Merci”designed by Akroe, also featuring Aaron Rose, Meth, SSUR, Peter Savile, Agnes B, Michael Leon and a retrospective of other DC Artist Projects.

Just a quick post about one of my last musical tip. Interesting mix of Mory Kanté, with a touch of Chicago sound, a small rave twist, and an interesting tribal black gay groove approach. Good one. Enjoy!

Russell Maurice is my co-Pilot.

My friend and artist Russell Maurice aka Gasius aka Gasix informed me he’s having a small artshow about
weird abstract mushrooms experiences…check the flyer above and be sure to stop there if you are around!!

Russell is the man behind the brand Gasius….and the man Behing Russell Maurice. I met him few years ago when Sixpack was just startin …. and we quickly became friends.

This guy came from the English graffiti scene, painting walls under the name of “Gasface“.

Back in 1993, he used to do some cool hand-painted tee shirts and worked as designer for English label Maharishi for years, developping camo and graphics for them.

For years Russell has developped a real strong personal  artistic language. I guess this is what makes him so complete.

Through his works, Gas creates a very green onirical hermetic universe.
These creations are not based on the superficial and flashy visual attraction which is so omnipresent in Street Art….
I mean his aim is deeper. His artworks are detailed, sensed and clever, with a real contemporary art approach. He knew better than anyone how to create such a world!
Russell is a good example of what we consider as an artist at Sixpack HQ.

Big up Russel…Everyday dude..Everyday!! E.V.E.R.Y.D.A.Y.S!

Here it comes.

The Sixpack decade is one of transition, Usenet became web 2.0. The old world is dead, but it doesn’t know it yet. Sub-cultures from the past govern the living world.

Sixpack isn’t tired yet.
