Ovinhos de Amendoim!

I have an obsession. When I first went down to Brasil years back, I didn’t know shit. Couldn’t speak a lick of Portuguese, knew nothing of the culture, really didn’t have a clue why I was even there to begin with (it may or may not have involved a girl). In any case, as a vegetarian, I quickly learned that I was totally on my own. Every single meal there involves massive amounts of meat, seriously dudes were mowing down chicken hearts for breakfast telling me, ‘try one they explode in your mouth!’ Obviously I wasn’t trying to get down like that. Anyway on one of my missions foraging for food I ended up at a gas station that had a decent mini mart. Perusing aisle after aisle I could really only come up with some wildstyle potato chips or some cheetohs (they are everywhere) but nothing that had an ounce of protein in it until I got to the register and saw before me the shining rack of Ovinhos de Amendoim! I had no clue what they were but by the illustration on the bag it seemed safe to say that somehow a peanut was involved. Having been veggie for nearly a decade at the time, I had learned that if all other attempts at a veggie meal failed, you could always rely on peanuts. Good ol fashioned peanuts. Well these Ovinho things definitely weren’t old fashioned but they definitely had peanuts. So I bought a bag, went out in the parking lot and ripped that shit open. The only way I can describe what I found inside would be to say it was like a salty Kix cereal ball with a peanut inside, which doesn’t sound all that delectable at first, but man these things must have been baked with crack because I tore through that first bag in about 2 seconds and was back in the store buying every other bag they had. No lie, by the time I was done, no mercado within 20 miles of where we were (which was Praia do Rosa, Santa Caterina btw) had any Ovinhos de Amendoim left. I lived on these things for 15 days! Now I’ve searched high and low but you cannot get Ovinhos in the states. I’ve emailed distributors, I’ve combed every supermarket in Astoria, I’ve tried to buy from the company direct, all to no avail. So basically every time I go I fill up a suitcase of these things to take back. And when I can’t go, I ask every Brasilian friend I have to pick some up for me, send em, whatever, just get me some Ovinhos! That brings us to this pic above. My great friend and brother Lucas Penido, who runs TheHypeBR, the world’s foremost Portuguese language hype blog, went down to Brasil a few weeks ago and like the ill homey he is, brought me back mad bags of Ovinhos. I been so craze though, I haven’t linked to pick them up yet and what started as 10 bags has dwindled to three. I’m telling you they are like crack, Lucas had never even had one before I put him down and he had to literally hide them in his crib to avoid eating the remaining joints. Then today comes this message entitled S.O.S. with the above pic attached. Perai meu grande irmao, to indo pro Queens agora, eu quero pegar meus Ovinhosss!

Eu andava calmamente pela rua com o lucas, quando ele me perguntou – \
Amo isso … quase o mesmo tanto que os popos das Brasileiras rsrs .
I went to Brazil for Christmas and New Years and quickly became addicted to Ovinhos de Amendoim! (Maybe for a boy.)
When I came back, I searched high and low here in Southern Cali! I scoured every International market, and googled my mind out!! But to no avail.

sorry, took a long time to answer.
I had ordered, and then the company called me and said that they didn’t have it because there was a problem with the shipment and they couldn’t sell it. I asked them to send me an email when they have it. Been looking for that for a loooooooong time now!
