Super Chron Flight Brothers | Indonesia

Another 4/20 treat for y’all. In the spirit of take one and pass, my peoples at Backwoodz Studioz are releasing Indonesia by the Super Chron Flight Brothers for free today. I been buggin out to it the last couple days – it’s on some some next level electro-cannabinoid stimulator shit – crazy in the headphones! Blaze up and cop the full length album here. In the spirit of the holiday I followed the smoke until I linked with the blurred-out half of the duo, Billy Woods, so he could let you know a little more about it.

What are the Flight Bros all about for someone who doesn’t know?

The Super Chron Flight Brothers are the cats you cheated off in AP English class, but bought trees off of afterschool. They also probably flipped the burger you ate for lunch. And remember the telemarketer who always called your house at the exact wrong time, yeah…that was me.

What are people getting with this 4/20 release?

Indonesia is basically a side project with Marmaduke, who did the majority of the production. He lives out in the Bay Area but we go way back and he actually did a bunch of production for us before taking a hiatus and coming back better than ever. So yeah, basically, we were working on our follow-up to 2007s Emergency Powers, and then Marmaduke stepped up and started sending us these great beats. Thing is they didn’t fit in the context of Cape Verde, which is the other record and so we said fuck it, lets do a record with him. Then in the course of putting Indonesia together we added a few beats from a few of our other people, Nasa from Uncommon Music, EssexDogs, this cat Teleseen I was doing some stuff with for his record, which is on an electro-dub vibe and he threw me a few tracks. And we had a couple joints from DR. MONOKROME that had never found a home but were really dope…so we just kept recording. The main idea was that since Cape Verde is a little more in the lane of our first album in terms of production and being heavy on concepts, we would keep Indonesia a little more out there beat-wise and also, no guests. We got some heavy hitters for Cape Verde and of course we had DOOM, Cannibal Ox and Trife da God on our debut so this one we just kept it stripped down. The end result is a dope, experimental record, that also showcases some of our favorite producers who are coming from a more electronic music side of things. If you go back and look at our catalogs as soloists and in groups, we enjoy a wide range of production so it wasn’t any type of crazy departure.

What’s next for the SCFB’s? Shows, recordings, collabos?

We have shows in the pipeline. And we have this Cape Verde LP in the fall with production by Willie Green and BOND, so yeah, we will be busy.

Anything else poppin with Backwoodz?

Well, Indonesia is a free download but we have a VERY LIMITED number of deluxe double CDs that will be available from the label and a couple select websites. Speaking for myself, I still fuck with CDs, and so do lots of other people. I like to have a physical manifestation of the record and liner notes and all that. So anyway, we will have a VERY LIMITED AMOUNT, autographed DOUBLE CDs of Indonesia. That second CD is Marmadukes instrumentals and different remixes by all our peoples…BOND, Willie Green, Nasa, Essex Dogs, A.M. Breakups and Ravage from Monsta Island Czars. It’s like an alternate album almost. Also look out for new shit from The Invizzibl Men, HiCoup, Willie Green and a new Priviledge solo too.
