Mush Mon?!

After the cliff jumping, the second raddest thing I got to see in Jamaica was the training facility for the Jamaican Dogsled Team. Most people know or at least know of the Jamaican Bobsled team, the 1988 cultural phenomenon that predicated the movie Cool Runnings, while less know of Errol Kerr, the sole member of the 2010 Jamaican Ski Team, but almost no one knows jack about the Jamaican Dogsled Team and Newton Marshall, the Jamaican Musher who was the first Caribbean islander ever to finish the Iditarod with a time of 12 days, 4 hours, 27 minutes, 28 seconds. The Jamaican training facility is located in Ocho Rios and exclusively uses rescue dogs from the Jamaican Humane Society for its teams. Sponsored by drunken songster Jimmy Buffett and English/Jamaican entrepreneur Danny Melville, the program has had the the twin effect of creating a respectable Jamaican Dogsled team along with a world class animal rights effort. I got pulled by a team of 16 dogs to almost 40mph and felt first hand how rad warm weather mushing really is, more pics from Chukka Caribbean Adventures after the jump.

I really enjoyed this attraction, Chukka Adventures. It was a fun, bumpy ride.
Glad you had a great time Dog Sledding in Jamaica.
