The One Day project for Patrice that Phil and David put together is definitely one of the most fun campaigns I’ve had the chance to get involved with. I didn’t know Patrice prior to being asked to score a day of my life with one of his songs and not many of my people did either, but add a camera, a blog, and some homies to the mix and bam, there’s the power of social media. A couple weeks ago I got the chance to get over to Germany to peep out the new Volkswagen Golf on her home turf. While the trip was an epic pilgrimage for me on several levels, I have to say that to be unleashed onto the autobahn in a zero mileage, fine-tuned TDI was damn near a defining moment in my life. I always knew that speed limits were bullshit! But past that, from the mind-blowing efficiency of the Germans to the historical implications of touring rural eastern Germany in a VW, the trip was a once in a lifetime experience. I have a bunch to share but let me start with me and the homie Nikhil mad lost on drive day #1. It was 8am and the gas station was selling beer and this old dude was telling us that the autobahn was in every direction. It wasn’t.

I already ran this on Facebook, but felt it was worthy of the repost. This is me loving Germany. Why? Because the dude at the subway platform bodega will sell you an icy cold pilsner.

And you can head off into the night drinking on the subway like it’s one big bar car. Nobody even looks at you funny. So yeah, they may not be the friendliest, and they definitely got the whole world war concept pretty fucked up, but when it comes down to good ol fashioned quality of life, the Germans have it on lock! Prost!

Thanks to my homie Oli Tielsch from Monster, I also had the change to hit up the opening of the Nike SB pop-up shop while I was in Berlin. Oli was launching his super rad NYC issue and SB was showing Alex Flach’s sick shots of the German SB team tours to Cairo, Dubai, Capetown, and Tokyo. I bumped into both Gigi Ruf and Chris Haslam there on the totally random tip, which just made me think yet again “fuck it really is a super small world.” Peep the rest of my pics at RadCollector.

I just had the opportunity to travel back to the hinterland and have a gang of good stories to share but it seemed appropriate to start with a quick shot of my very first visit to the HighSnob Headquarters in Mitte, Berlin.
