I first met Pat Conlon about ten years ago at this crazy gallery/brownstone on the upper east side where he was showing some work. The spot itself was very much out of the downtown element I’m used to but Pat’s pieces, huge paintings on top of giant swaths of a billboard for the movie Spider Man, blew my mind. Pat’s intense brush strokes juxtaposed against the hyper glossy surrealism of the advertisement, plus the fact that I assumed Pat had stolen a billboard the size of a city bus, cemented in my mind that he was an artist willing to put in some serious work.
I’ve seen a lot of Pat’s stuff over the years but I don’t think I’ve seen the billboard stuff since, so I’m super stoked that he’s bringing some of those pieces back to Gallery Bar for his latest exhibition which opens tonight. The show is officially called “Works of Women” and features Pat’s take on all things feminine. Come through from 6pm to 9pm tonight if you want to meet Pat and grab a drink or two and if you miss it, the exhibit will be up from now until Christmas. Gallery Bar is located at 120 Orchard Street between Rivington and Delancey.
