Turkey Trot!

This year I’m most thankful for one thing – my healed ankle! I had a pretty rough time with my broken talus bone and even after recovering enough to walk and then bike, I was unsure whether or not I would ever be able to fully run again. Not run from the cops run, but long distance road running, a passion of mine and something I’ve come to rely on for everything from keeping myself from blowing up (I like to eat and drink!) to keeping my stress levels in check. As fate would have it, I took my first run this past week thanks to the generosity of my man Tim Yu at Nike who came through with the ill pair of Lunar Eclipses. Although I was a little shaky, and so slow that I was getting burned by ladies my mom’s age at Prospect Park, it felt like I was reborn and I managed to get in two more runs, each with increased distance and speed, before getting the email from my old friend Thomas Hynes that the annual Shippan Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot was in it’s 10th year. Since I ran in the original TT back in 2000, I felt like it was destiny to make my triumphant return for the tenth. I was completely blown away to see that the Trot had evolved into a major scale affair with costumes, spectators, and a charitable aspect that this year raised over $4000 for the homeless. It couldn’t have been more perfect, I raced my heart out, crossed the finish line 5th and even made it into a photo in the Stamford Advocate! I’m back baby!! Thanks everyone!
