Frankyyyyy!

You can’t make this stuff up. Out of left motherfucking field, or Dallas to be exact, comes this ill anthem from the Paperchaserz complete with the repeating chorus of “Frank, Frank,” and a graphic that looks exactly like the Frank151 logo. What?! Domingo, you better be on a plane to D-Town ready to sign these dudes right meow!

Olha isso: Eu na Conexao Converse!

Together with my grande parceiro, Lucas Penido from TheHypeBR, I took part in an interview with Converse Brasil about the legendary John Varvatos. The clip, or episodio as it’s called, is currently running front and center on the Converse Brasil site. The funny shit is, I did the interview via Skype and I guess the video got fucked up so they just took a bunch of stills from the column, good thing I didn’t have anything too buck wild up there, damn. I gotta shout out the dude who put it together, Daniel Bacchieri, as well as re-insert my plea to Varvatos himself that got edited out of the final version: John, bring CBGB’s back. New York needs it. Your store will be cool no matter where you put it. Valeu! Peep the vid on the Converse site right here.

Deka x Cormega | Journey

This one is straight from the heart. My big big homie Deka aka Dekatron Don aka BLK OPS General Salute! has just finished Cormega’s new video “Journey.” If you don’t know a) go read some other column, and b) Mega is the truth behind much of Nas’ early career. Do yourself a favor and get a hold of “The Realness,” or better yet, the original version of “Testament” and do the math on this much maligned, always under-appreciated, true QB MC. Respect.

Sometimes I am such a dick. I don’t even mean to be, but I really am. For example, I’ve been skating with my rad homie John for three years, we’ve had countless beers and general debauchery together, and I consider him one of my good friends. Over the course of those years he let me know that he was in a band, he’s invited me to a good dozen shows, and he’s given me his cd twice. He’s never been over the top with it, always extending a casual invite, as friends do, and never asking much about what I thought about the music other than in the way that says, “hey, we’re friends, it’s cool to give each other opinions on things, especially things that are of interest to us.” I mean I’m sure I’m always blabbering on about whatever bullshit I’m up to and John for sure always gives me an attentive ear. But through all that, I never once listened to his band. I even held the cd in my hand and thought to myself that it had dope art direction and the song names were super on point. I even pantomimed through conversations with mutual friends about how good John’s band was, nodding in and out all spacey style to give the impression that I was totally down. But the truth is I never listened once until John passed me this video last night. And for that I’m a total dick because they fucking rock. John I’m sorry my friend. I missed out. I don’t know what my problem is. This is Vagina Panther, the song is “Dave You Are Killing Me,” and they play Lit this Friday at 9pm. This time, you’re gonna see me there!

Mister Cartoon x NYC

06 August 2009, 00.00 | Posted in Art, collabs, videos | No comments »

Man, the most humbling experiences are always the most rewarding. I got the chance to chop it up with an elder statesman of streetwear yesterday by the name of Mister Cartoon for the upcoming Frank151 x G-Shock book. A true OG, Cartoon has a perspective on this whole lifestyle we live and love that needs to be heard in person to be fully appreciated. He was living it before most of us were born. What else is he doing in town? Yesterday he was doing a live installation at a phone store on 6th Ave to promote his new phone collab with PCS Mobile and today he’s headlining the G-Shock event with Kanye. That’s what you call a natural born hustler. Much respect.

My homies at LeDeux just sent me another email. This time is was to put me down to this little viral they did for the artist John Perry. John creeps the subway and pops off ill sketches of all sorts of unsuspecting NYC characters and has sketched over 1000 strangers between stops. You might be one! Music by Cresh Frazy.

Just Askin…

Let me preface by saying that I’m not super up on this guy. I know he’s been around forever and he’s always running for president but in all honesty, even during the last race, I didn’t hear one thing he said because he’s a Republican and I was totally tuned out on everyone except Obama. But it’s since come to my attention, thanks Joe, that this dude has some pretty amazing ideas on what’s important and what’s not in this particular day and age. I have not heard such frank questioning of our horribly flawed military industrial complex by a politician ever, especially not a septuagenarian ultra conservative Republican from Texas. Too bad this was on C-Span (aka The Boring Network).
