Sometimes it really is all about “ask and you shall receive.” Last week while I was posting on March 9 about J Period and G Brown’s brilliant Biggie “March 9″ box set, I couldn’t help but wonder when I was going to hear the next great tribute to the Greatest Rapper of All Time. As fate would have it, it took less then a week. Over the weekend I ran into my old homie DJ A-Dog at the US Open at Stratton who laced me with “BIG: The Reggae Fixed Tape,” his all-Biggie mix uniting Big Poppa with his Jamaican roots. Let me say one thing, A-Dog is a re-fix master and has been for years, but this is a true masterpiece. Once Craig, Brad and I got it on in the whip and got our heads right, we couldn’t take it off, and I’m talking all the way from Stratton to BK! Fuck all the talk, though, and onto the music: A-Dog was rad enough to hit me off with a free download (tracked out and all that) for HighSnob readers. It seems impossible to comprehend, but we lost Biggie 12 years ago today. I don’t think its even the least bit trite to say that if he were here, the world would be a different place. Most of you probably know that on the 10th anniversary of his passing, DJ’s J.Period and G Brown put together the March 9 mixtape to honor him and then released part 2 last year. Without any doubt, they combine to form one of the greatest sonic tributes ever produced.
