Brickism III

14 August 2009, 21.53 | Posted in Uncategorized | No comments »

Saturday was the opening of the Brickism show at Wood Wood Copenhagen. It was a nice sunny day, people were smiling and nothing fell apart. Thanks to everybody who came by.

The genereal idea was to have some grown-ups play around with Lego bricks and see what would happen. We had defined a fixed set of rules such as size, colours and types of bricks, but I think the builders really succeeded in translating each artist´s individual style into the geometric system of Lego.
As mentioned before the sculptures will be auctioned off for the benefit of Save The Children.

A few more details about the Brickism project:

We invited 4 artists from 4 different cities to contribute to this project.
Each artist was asked to come up with sketches for a sculpture to be built in Lego bricks. We then connected the artists to Lego Fans in each country, who is responsible for the actual building.

Participating artists are:
HuskMitNavn / Copenhagen
Delta / Amsterdam
Will Sweeney / London
So Me / Paris

The sculptures will be shown in each of the 4 cities starting with Wood Wood, Copenhagen in August,
followed by
Colette, Paris in September,
Goodhood, London in October and
290 SQM, Amsterdam in November.

All sculptures will be auctioned off to benefit Save The Children.

Here are a few early images from the builders:

When we first initiated this project we had no idea how this would turn out, and we are still looking forward to seeing the final results. Hopefully everything will come together and be ready for next saturday where we will host the opening of the exhibition at Wood Wood Copenhagen.
