JSBJ / Flemming Ove Bech

French zine publishers JE SUIS UNE BANDE DE JEUNES have a new zine out by the Danish photographer Flemming Ove Bech.
Most of JSBJ’s publications are out of print, but i can recommend the Bruit de Fond / Background Noise book which is still available. Also here.

Back

After a couple of weeks in the Mediterranean Sea I’m now back at the studio staring into the eternal depths of my inbox. My skin now non-optical white and collar bone almost recovered from a bad bike crash a few weeks back, I feel revitalized and ready for the Copenhagen summer.

A lot of stuff is going on at the moment; We are relocating our Copenhagen store in a few months and there’s a lot of work to do in the new space.. Preparations for the upcoming SS12 show in Berlin is in full swing – BIG NEWS: Synth wizard Gavin Russom is doing original music for the show! I’m very excited about this.
Actually Gavin deserves a post of his own, but as an introduction check out this VBS episode from last year:

Also the collection samples are slowly coming in, yesterday we received our bag line with the new camouflage print we developed. Turned out pretty good although a little different from how I imagined it.

I love camouflage. It’s incredible how such a strong visual expression is based on pure functionality. I really enjoy working with camo prints, but they can be quite difficult and sometimes require a little more patience than I possess.
Apart from the obvious but brilliant camo bible DPM by Mr. Hardy Blechman, it’s hard to find any good resources in this field.
I just learned about www.camopedia.org but only spent a few minutes there. Could be good.

Yesterday was also the opening of everybody’s favourite designer/illustrator/artist Geoff McFetridge’s show at V1. It was very nice to meet Geoff again and interesting to see how his work translates to canvas.

Telefon Til Chefen

I recently visited ‘Traneudstillingen’ which is a public exhibition space at Gentofte Library. My friends Emil Alsbo and Simon Højbo – together with Magnus Clausen known as TTC, were invited to create an exhibition for its 40-year anniversary. In the past many Danish libraries had art collections that were available to the general public, a tradition not so common these days. ‘Reg nr.’ is loosely themed on this practice and the guys from TTC were granted access to the collections of several libraries for the exhibition. The result is a mix of archived pieces from the likes of Bjørn Nørgaard and Per Kirkeby + new works from TTC, all organized perfectly in the framework of the open library space creating a very special atmosphere. This actually felt more like a large installation than an exhibition of works.

Knowing these guys since design school it’s been great to see how their work has developed over the years, and it makes me look forward to see where they’re going in the future. BIG UP.

W.W. Aarhus

We just opened our shop # 4 , this time in Aarhus which is the second largest city in Denmark. Around 600 people showed up and a special thanks to all of you !!! It was a very special day for all of us at W.W. and we are looking forward to the future in Aarhus !
