What can we expect from the Cityscapes exhibition as far as scale and works?

JP - For the Cityscapes exhibition I have experimented with a number of different materials and calligraphic style. There is a lot of variety and unexpected things going on as part of the exhibition, that deal with music, environment and personal history. I wanted to stay true to the theme of the title Cityscapes being that my paintings are inspired by the function of the urban systems I've explored and experienced. There are also more than 30 new paintings never shown anywhere before including a few large scale paintings as installation.

You're about to release your first publication. How did the book project evolve and when can we expect to see it?

JP - The book is something we spoke about doing concurrently with the exhibition. The opportunity couldn't be more perfect. I had been talking about doing a book with my friend Chris Rubino designing it so when Al asked about doing the book Chris and I had already had a lot of the files and photos organized. It was just a matter of completing it. The cover of the book is photographed by Stefan Ruiz, and there are some really amazing shots of me working in the studio that you took plus some shots by Davi Russo. The book's introduction essay is written by Manon Slome who is curating the show as well, and there is a second essay by art theorist Michael Betancourt. The Cityscapes book will be available for sale at the exhibition as of Dec 6th.

I know you have extensive experience in publishing, are you pleased with the way the book turned out?

AM - Jose and Chris did a wonderful job of putting this book together in the time frame they were given. I can't even begin to tell you how many people I've worked with that have literally taken years to put a project like this together. We knocked this book out in 3 months start to finish and it came out great. I've learned that sometimes things that come together quickly and from the heart end up better than things that have been rethought 100 times. This is perfect example of that. Amazing artwork, beautiful photography, clean layouts, complex printing processes...it's all in there. I'm really pleased with the end product.
I've noticed Spoonfed getting involved more and more in publishing. Anything up your sleave you'd like to share with us?

AM - We've got a bunch of projects lined up for next year, but right now I'm just focused on this exhibition and promoting Jose's book. His work deserves it. He is an amazing artist and an even better individual.

Any parting words?

JP - Thanks for showing me love. See you at the show!.

AM - Thanks for taking the time to spotlight this exhibition. I'm hoping a lot of you will pass through and enjoy this show. It's going to be nice to get down to Miami and enjoy some warm weather...
