Highsnobiety

In fashion, timelessness is a virtue – ironically so, now more than ever. And no, this doesn't (always) equal quiet luxury. In fact, clothes that are known to have resisted a trend-cycle-induced expiration date can be as much about inconspicuous cashmeres, as they are about comfortable activewear. Athleisure's been an aesthetic guiding principle, if you will, for as long as we can remember, and decade-spanning, mouth-watering depictions of it in action have inspired many a wardrobe.

Athleisure is omnipresent, it's never gone anywhere, and will always remain a fashion fixture. adidas is an indispensable pillar upholding said category, as has become even clearer in our comb-through of the history of well-considered-yet-casual style. The only thing to do with that information, then, was to source from years' worth of archival and contemporary imagery featuring some of our favorite people wearing one of the titular genre's most influential brands.

Kobe Bryant

The late, great Kobe Bryant's legacy lingers in the many domains he touched, including fashion. His choice in clothes is still revered for its understated but personal nature. The mesh jersey ensemble on display in this vintage photograph is just that: easy but expressive.

Anthony Kiedis

Going from expressive to eccentric, we see Red Hot Chili Peppers singer Anthony Kiedis trotting around LAX in 1998. We wanted to save you from the much-feared socks-and-slides combo, and'll instead suggest you go with these mules – no less because, chances are, you already own a pair of adilettes.

Austin Butler

Hopping to present day, Austin Butler's recent grocery-run getup shows a more toned-down side of this post's theme, with an all-black top-to-bottom that slithers right past the often vibrant colors associated with it, to settle on a more sleek look.

David Beckham

Both his high profile career as an athlete, as well as his menswear idol status predestine Mr. Beckham to appear on this list. Among the many to choose from, we decided on this endearing yesteryear snapshot of him donning a sand-toned two-piece and white Superstars.

Fiona Apple

Bet you didn't expect to see a marvelously 90s Fiona Apple?! Well, here she is nonetheless, exemplifying how athleisure mustn't necessarily mean or strictly pertain to otherwise-wearable workout clothes, but can be a juxtaposition of higher brow attire with an almost humorous-in-contrast accessory. Picture this: one of The Row's wool suits with a retro adidas handbag? Admit it, you feel it, too.

Law Roach

Last, but certainly not least, a Hollywood stylist that's become a celebrity in his own right, Image Architect® and Zendaya's right-hand-man, Law Roach, stuns in this 3-stripe tuxedo, with a headpiece from the German brand's collaboration with Gucci, and a red-hot Bottega. Intrigued? adidas' Y-3 line with Yohji Yamamoto will set you up with high performance evening wear that merges German technical finesse with Japanese futuristic elegance; unpretentiously charismatic, doing right by this article's headline.
