Highsnobiety

Welcome to Beauty Lookbook, Highsnobiety’s series examining the beauty routines of our stylish friends. This month we chat with Evelyn Lewis, better known as @evilllllyn, whose painterly makeup looks inspired by Gustav Klimt, vintage dolls, and more are going TikTok-viral.

Name: Evelyn Lewis, but my artist name is Evil

Location: Chicago, IL

Occupation: Makeup artist

What’s your earliest beauty-related memory?

It must’ve been around 2009 — I got hold of the liquid Lip Smackers lip gloss. I remember carrying it everywhere and getting in trouble when I would put it on my eyelids because I loved the look of glossy eyes. It was the closest thing I had to eyeshadow or makeup at all.

How has your definition of beauty changed as you’ve gotten older?

My definition of beauty is far less rigid now, and is defined by what makes me feel good. To me, beauty is more of a feeling than a look.

What’s the first beauty product you ever bought?

My mom bought me Almay liquid eyeliner in middle school, but the first product I personally bought was the Better Than Sex mascara by Too Faced. I felt so grown up.

What’s the one product you always splurge on?

I will ALWAYS splurge on eyeshadow. 100%. My favorite eyeshadows ever have been Pat McGrath Labs and ISAMAYA.

What’s your favorite drug store product?

The Covergirl TruBlend Undercover concealer! It is by far by most repurchased product. But I can’t not mention my favorite lip liner ever: the Maybelline Color Sensational lip liner in the shade "Gone Griege."

What’s your holy grail — the one product you can’t live without?

I can’t live without my Lumify eyedrops, especially if I do more than one makeup look in a day. I always tell my friends that my eyes feel so juicy.

What do you smell like?

I smell like Khiel’s Original Musk eau de toilette, but I change my perfume depending on the season. I’ve been collecting perfume since before I have worn makeup, so I always smell different.

What’s your favorite under-the-radar beauty brand?

Apple Doll! Their True Love Blush Cheekstick in the shade "Eve" is my favorite.

Do you shower in the morning or at night?

Ideally I’m showering midday, but if I can’t do that I’m showering at night.

How does your style inform your beauty routine?

My everyday style is a lot of functional basics, and I like to wear all black. Makeup is how I feel most comfortable expressing myself in a more colorful, eccentric way. In general, clothes and makeup serve different purposes for me.

What is one piece of beauty advice you would give to everyone?

You don’t have to spend a lot to create a great look. Some of the best makeup I’ve ever used have been from the drug store, and products can have multiple uses. A lipstick doesn’t just have to be for your lips —use it for blush or eyeshadow!
