Ahead of the theatrical release later this year, today we get our first look at Overlord from J.J. Abrams‘ Bad Robot and Paramount Pictures.

The supernatural thriller, directed by Julius Avery, centers around a group of U.S. paratroopers who stumble upon a Nazi experimentation lab designed to combat the Allies. Following attempts to create the ultimate soldier, during which things apparently went awry, a blood-thirsty zombie species was born.

There are reportedly no direct ties between Overlord and Abrams' Cloverfield franchise, but don't be surprised if there is a subtle connector or two at some point in the movie.

Starring Jovan Adepo, Jacob Anderson, Iain De Caestecker, John Magaro, Wyatt Russell, and Bokeem Woodbine, Overlord is due in theaters November 9.

Next up, watch the creepy af trailer for J.J. Abrams and Stephen King's upcoming psychological horror series, 'Castle Rock.'
