While many brands are turning tank tops into luxury commodities, with a plain $355 Loewe tank even being named the hottest product right now, Marni is busy turning tanks into luxury bags.

It takes a few looks to fully grasp what the label's Basket Tank Top is but, after inspecting it for a while, you notice it uses the armholes from a tank top as straps and a collar as a bag opening.

It's slightly surreal to see what looks like a top being used to carry around someone's possessions and that's only exaggerated by the classic basketball jersey style that Marni has gone for.

With colorful ribbing and the Italian fashion house's logo curved across the center, it's the type of jersey that we've all seen and worn throughout our lives — even if it was put on unwillingly during a sports lesson.

As we learned when we met the extended Marni family minutes after the final fittings for a show in Milan, a fun and lighthearted approach to fashion is central to the brand. This design shows that, and has become a popular cross-over style that's back for the new season.

The bag (slash basketball jersey) has arrived as part of the brand's new AW23 drop and is far from being the only surrealist piece on offer. Also included in the collection is a scarily-realistic pink-colored eye used as a necklace pendant, mohair beanies that could be mistaken for being from a hippy market, and much more — as you'll discover by scrolling down.
