Size?’s VHS adidas Is Nostalgia You Can Wear
adidas and Size?, a UK-based footwear retailer, just added another layer of nostalgia to an already retro sneaker. The duo have given the Trimm Star — a Samba-like silhouette introduced in the ‘70s — a colorful makeover paying homage to a popular piece of old-school technology: the VHS tape.
This drop includes two nostalgic takes on the Trimm Star. One pair wears a pebbled white leather upper with adidas’ Three Stripes rendered in red, green and blue — a nod to the SMPTE color bars seen on old VHS tapes. A black heel tab and rubber gum outsole compound the shoe’s retro aesthetic.
The second pair boasts a charcoal suede upper with Three Stripes in violet, red, and yellow, rounding out the color bar rainbow. Both sneakers feature coordinating VHS color bar insoles, complemented by a gold foil logo on the sidewall.
Like VHS tapes, adidas' Trimm Star emerged during the ‘70s. Both have experienced a resurgence of sorts in recent years. For VHS tapes, this looks like analog enthusiasts or "tapeheads" searching video stores for second-hand tapes to add to their collection.
For the Trimm Star, this looks like a series of revivals dating back to 2018, when adidas and Size? released their very first VHS-inspired take on the shoe.
That's right, this isn’t their first rodeo. Throughout the years, adidas and Size? have teamed up on several other Trimm Star collaborations, including a red and white version with Italian racing bike manufacturer Colnago.
When it comes to the Trimm Star, adidas and Size? have flavors.
