Fabric First: Exploring Fleece, the Ultimate Fall Companion
We’ve teamed up with Urban Outfitters to explore the world of fabrics in a series called Fabric First, diving deep into materials and textures that are season- and style-appropriate right now.
Material matters. And as we move into fall and winter, it matters even more. Our choice of material not only shapes the final product of our fits, but it also determines whether an outfit passes the weather test or not. For example, you might love silk and linen — who doesn’t? — but that love has to be reined in for the colder months. Fleece, on the other hand, is ideal.
Fleece, as you may have guessed, is one of the earliest clothing materials, dating back as a form of clothing to 3000 BC. Of course, fleece has changed since then, when it was literally off of a sheep’s back but it was only in 1979 when Patagonia and Polartec created Synchilla, a synthetic fleece made to mimic wool. Lucky, because where would our fall/winter wardrobes be without it?
We’ve rounded up 10 products that illustrate why we love fleece so much. From slippers to varsity jackets, we’ve covered the spectrum of fleece and it’s one of the coziest roundups to date.
