Face Value: The 5 Best Beauty Drops of September
Welcome to Face Value, Highsnobiety’s monthly guide to the best new beauty products and the brands behind them.
Amid the pomp and circumstance of Fashion Month, it was easy to overlook September's steady stream of beauty newness. In between flashy runway shows and afterparties, beauty brands quietly launched at-home skincare tech and fall-ready fragrances.
From Hermès' new fragrance to Victoria Beckham's latest Augustinus Bader collab, these are the September beauty launches worth adding to cart.
Dieux - Baptism Cleanser
It's not easy to find a face wash that's both tough on makeup (waterproof mascara included) and non-stripping. But Dieux's Baptism Cleanser, the skincare brand's first cleanser, checks all of our boxes.
Available in both fragranced and fragrance-free versions, Baptism is a gentle, foaming gel that keeps your skin feeling hydrated and removes all manner of grime and makeup.
Hermès - Barenia
Hermès Barenia, the maison's latest fragrance, is advertised as its very first chypre — a genre of perfume that's structured with citrus, labdanum, and oakmoss notes. I wouldn't classify Barenia as a chypre in a traditional sense, but it's certainly a twist on the classic formula.
With notes of miracle berry (a fruit that, when eaten, sweetens everything sampled subsequently), butterfly lily, oakwood, and patchouli, Barenia is a balancing act of fresh, floral, and woody. Plus, it comes in a chic bottle inspired by Hermès' famous Collier de Chien (dog collar) jewelry.
Victoria Beckham x Augustinus Bader - The Concealer Pen
Victoria Beckham has a long-standing relationship with Augustinus Bader, the luxury skincare brand beloved by Hollywood's finest. The Spice Girl's eponymous beauty brand offers a line of primers and serums formulated with TCF8, a patented complex created by Dr. Bader himself.
Now, Beckham and Bader have applied the skin-renewing magic of TCF8 to a chic concealer pen that looks as good as it works. In 16 shades, the concealer is lightweight and serum-like, yet potent enough to erase redness, discoloration, and blemishes. Pair it with AB x VB's illuminating primer for a shockingly luminous base.
Coty - Infiniment Coty
Believe it not, Coty, the beauty giant that owns brands like Rimmel London and Covergirl, got its start in fragrance. Founder and perfumer François Coty, widely credited as the father of modern perfumery, began selling his olfactive creations in the early 1900s. They quickly found a market thanks to their quality and affordability.
Monsieur Coty died in 1934, but his company is paying homage to his legacy with a new fine fragrance collection, Infiniment Coty, comprised of 14 scents. Each one is signature scent-worthy but my personal favorite is Aristo Chypre, a nod to Chypre de Coty — famously the first chypre in the history of perfume.
Orcé - Water Magnet Lip Tint
Orcé Cosmetics is beloved for its foundation, researched and formulated to seamlessly match the hue, depth, and undertones of Asian skin ("we're not just yellow," founder Yu-Chen Shih told Highsnobiety).
With the brand's latest launch, it has another hit on its hands.Orcé's new Water Magnet Lip Tint is a lightweight, plumping gloss with zero stickiness — seriously. In four versatile shades, the tint can be worn alone for a subtle, just-bitten look or layered over lipstick for extra oomph.
