Highsnobiety

One of our favorite unofficial holidays, 4/20, is a day of celebration, an opportunity to eat, toke, cop, and watch any and everything around our favorite medicinal herb. If you are looking for edible recipes, on the hunt for new gear, or are simply trying to find the best stoner movies, be sure to check out our Highsnobiety Stoner's Guide.

Perfume may not be the first thing that comes to mind when planning out your 420 adventures. Nonetheless, cannabis has a longstanding history in the world of perfumery that goes all the way back to the 1980s.

Beyond its novelty — and its inherently controversial nature — cannabis is a complex note that can manifest as fruity, spicy, green, earthy, and pungent.   Its depth of aromas has led to the creation of some of the best olfactory experiences in the game. Maison Margiela Replica, Profumum Roma, Pierre Guillaume, Akro, Nasomatto, and Dries Van Noten are just some of the brands that have led the charge in 420-friendly perfumes.

Ahead, we’re taking a look at our favorite cannabis perfumes — fragrances that will have you singing high praise to this underappreciated note.

Explore our curation of some of the best cannabis perfumes for 2024 420.

Dries Van Noten - Cannabis Patchouli

Notes: bergamot, cedar leaf, clary sage, patchouli, incense, cannabis, haitian vetiver, musk

Editor’s Notes: Cannabis Patchouli immediately transports me to Dries Van Noten’s 2015 tufted grass runway show  — a fashion collection that’s both luxurious and bohemian. Think a mash-up of 1967’s Summer of Love and Pre-Raphaelite art.

Bō - Oro Verde

Notes: bergamot, cannabis, maté, basil, vetiver, watermelon, ambergris, palo santo, tree moss

Editor’s notes: Oro Verde feels like a day spent hiking in the American Southwest. Imagine trekking through lush, green landscapes, stopping to enjoy freshly cut watermelon along the way.

Borntostandout - Mary Jane

Notes: grapefruit, mint, rhubarb, cannabis, hemp, passion fruit, elemi resin sage, caramel, cashmere wood, pine, woods

Editor’s notes: Borntostandout’s Mary Jane shares its  name with Rick James' beloved funk hit. I don’t think that’s a coincidence. Just like its namesake,  Borntostandout’s 2024 release is a punk, bombastic, and glamorous ode to everyone’s favorite medicinal herb. I imagine it smells something like stepping out into Studio 54’s party scene in the early 80s.

Boy Smells - Cowboy Kush

Notes: cannabis, hazelnut, labdanum, mandarin orange, oud, patchouli, saffron blossom suede, tobacco, tonka bean, white leather

Editor’s notes: If you’ve ever taken a puff of the Indica-dominant strain Cowboy Kush, you’re familiar with its feel:  herbal, warm, and citrusy,  coupled with a strong relaxing experience that will have you feeling good all day. Wearing Boy Smells’ Cowboy Kush is no different.

Neela Vermeire Créations - Trayeen

Notes: blackcurrant, elemi resin, basil, cinnamon, ginger, cannabis, cardamom, clove egyptian jasmine, sandalwood, jasmine sambac, saffron, mysore sandalwood, myrrh haitian vetiver, java vetiver, vanilla, amber, cedar, frankincense, oud, oakmoss, patchouli

Editor’s notes: Trayeen is a trip, transporting you to your warm weather happy place. Like a Rorschach test, some might get wafts of salty marine air or whiffs of a sun-drenched spice market. Others might venture off to a summer music festival or the intimate setting of a sensual rooftop bar. Trayeen pulls you in so many directions.

Bois 1920 - Cannabis

Notes: cannabis, patchouli, light woods

Editor’s Notes: Some people can’t stand the smell of cannabis, while others can’t get enough of its green, woody scent profile. This Bois 1920 concoction has been created for the latter. Cannabis is the greenest of the green, conjuring fresh, budding plants in a grow house.

Fragrance Du Bois - Cannabis Intense

Notes: cardamom, pink pepper, orange, saffron, cannabis, nutmeg, woody notes, cedar, musk, thai oud

Editor’s Notes: It’s giving high-end SoCal dispensary. Step into the boutique and you’ll be bombarded with fruity edibles, sanitized metallic counters, wooden shelves with the best THC accessories on display, and of course the subtle citrusy and earthy terpenes of top-shelf cannabis.

Birkholz - Lady Cannabis

Notes: apricot liqueur, rum, pepper, heart notes, cannabis, neroli tea, osmanthus, cashmere wood, leather

Editor’s Notes: Lady Cannabis is a summertime high, reminiscent of a long, sunny day spent grilling —  all topped off with a healthy amount of apricot rum cocktails.
