Dan Graham's HIGHArt Playlist is a Mid-Afternoon Treat
HIGHArt is Highsnobiety's ode to all things artistic. From our “museum store” pop up in Miami, a print magazine, and exclusive content and product with collaborators like Chito, Honey Dijon, Parra, Matt McCormick and more, we’re going deep on the art world. Explore HIGHArt here.
Dan Graham's work over the last 60 years has blended the worlds of art and architecture through large-scale installations. Meanwhile, his writings have been hugely influential in art theory, making him a pioneer in the conceptual art movement of the ’60s. However, perhaps less publically known is the fact that Graham’s other passion lies in music.
Having given us a guide to Florida as part of HIGHArt magazine, he has now offered further insight into his life by providing a peek into his music tastes through a carefully curated playlist. Titled the “3-4PM Daily”, Graham has compiled 62-songs of progressive and indie rock for you to sit down and share a moment with during a mid-afternoon break.
Going beyond a hobby, the rock enthusiast worked as a music critic for magazines at the start of his career and later incorporated this into his work. Through his texts, the artist and writer examined rock music and related it to consumer culture and visual arts movements, while his video Rock My Religion explores the parallels between rock music and religion.
Graham's love for music has been further immortalized via a t-shirt that is part of our HIGHArt platform. Created by his wife Mieko Megura, he can be seen browsing through his large vinyl collection in the design. Featuring artists such as Bob Dylan, The Beach Boys, and Dean Martin, the below playlist gives us a look at the records that sit on Graham’s shelf.
