London Meets NYC for a Practically Bookish Streetwear Collab
Goodhood welcomed an NYC-based brand to the UK for a collab inspired by the city that never sleeps.
Specifically, London-based Goodhood teamed up with 18 East, bringing the New York brand across the pond for an eight-piece capsule collection. The drop features stylish, practical pieces like fleece outerwear, cargo pants, and hoodies.
Titled "The Improbable Builders Co-Op," this collaborative effort draws from a literary work of art: Charas: The Improbable Dome Builders. The book, by Syeus Mottel, follows a partnership between a geodesic dome inventor and six ex-gang members called CHARAS, who teamed up to build a dome on a vacant lot near NYC’s Manhattan Bridge.
I might have to add that one to my Goodreads account.
The collection's oversized, utilitarian look is a signature of both brands, evident in 18 East and Bodega collaboration from a few years back. For the Goodhood team-up, the pieces focus on the re-contexulization of unused space in urban environments that the book showcases.
The collection took the inspiration a step further by shooting the lookbook in the same Manhattan neighborhood where the fictional dome was erected. Even better, Goodhood created their own dome in their London store.
The full Goodhood x 18 East collection is available now on the brands' websites. And an exciting note for the 18 East-loving Brits: this is the first time a collection from the NYC brand is sold physically outside of the U.S. and Japan.
