Our Latest Collection Revisits Disney's Most Experimental Film To Date
Brand: Disney Fantasia x Highsnobiety
Release Date: October 19

Editor's Notes: First released in 1940, Fantasia was a Disney movie like no other. For starters, each of the 12 theatres that first showed the film was outfitted with a 96-speaker Fantasound system courtesy of Disney — allowing viewers to fully experience a soundtrack featuring composers such as Bach, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, and Stravinsky.
A film that Walt Disney created to prove that animations can be enjoyed by those of all ages, the music is only a small insight into Fantasia's hugely ambitious spirit.
At the time its unconventional approach wasn't well received, yet that hasn't stopped it from becoming something of a cult success. Whether it be amongst psychedelia-obsessed students in the 70s or film buffs, the movie which was so unorthodox it nearly bankrupted Disney has been a consistent point of intrigue — and that is revisited through this capsule collection.
Created alongside Disney, the selection of clothing and accessories uses original imagery from the film. This includes a famous scene with Mickey Mouse wearing a blue sorcerer's hat alongside a Magic Broom which is printed directly onto a long-sleeve t-shirt.
Both Mickey Mouse and the Magic Broom are featured extensively across the collection along with the film's original iconography, these are used to decorate hoodies, baseball caps, t-shirts, a scarf, and even a watch.
A collaboration with watchmaker Unimatic, an exclusive version of its U1s model limited to only 100 individually numbered models will be released as part of the collection. The Italian-made watch features a Mickey Mouse graphic on the watch face, glow-in-the-dark dials, and comes with three strap options.
The full collection can be found in the lookbook above, inspired by scenes from the original film, and is releasing on October 19 exclusively via the Highsnobiety Shop.
