Of Course, Nike's First Cryptokicks Are Dunks
Following Nike's acquisition of RTFKT in December 2021, the two have been prepping for the sportswear giant's big step into the metaverse, keeping everything pretty much under wraps — aside from random exclusive airdrops — until now.
In collaboration with RTFKT, Nike Cryptokicks confirms the rumors were true about Nike exploring sneaker NFTs with the unveiling of the Nike Dunk Genesis — RTFKT and Nike's first Cryptokicks and thus, the "Future of Sneakers," as the RTFKT puts it.
Naturally, Nike's first sneaker NFT is indeed a Dunk Low sneaker, the brand's arguably most hyped sneaker at the moment. Because why not add more hype to the model with the NFT craze?
Thanks to Skin Vial tech, users will be able to basically "Nike By You" their Nike Dunk Genesis, customizing the digital sneaker using exclusive skins designed by RTFKT's community of artists and collaborators.
To get you started, RTFKT — who is responsible for Highsnobiety's first NFT — is launching its first-ever skins collection with EVO X featuring eight different Clone X-inspired skins for your virtual Dunks.
Over time, the collection's skins will evolve your Nike Dunk Genesis, earning you "drip upgrades" and special "powers" as you navigate through the RTFKT world, or "Ecosystem," as they call it.
RTFKT and Nike also revealed its MNLTLH collaboration — which was exclusively airdropped to Clone X and PodX holders in February — as an immersive collectible NFT experience in the form of a digital floating metal-look box.
If luck is in your favor, MNLTLH could bless you with an all-out package deal of the Nike Dunk Genesis, Skin Vial, and MNLTLH 2 access.
While RTFKT and Nike are keeping things pretty ominous like most of its post-acquisition plans and even its mysterious MNLTLH box, you can expect more details soon. Don't worry; you'll get a chance to customize your virtual dunks.
