Spike Lee's Purple & Yellow Oscars Outfit Was a Tribute to Kobe Bryant
At the 2020 Oscars, director Spike Lee paid homage to the late Kobe Bryant. Lee wore a purple, custom Gucci, two-button notch lapel Heritage suit with yellow trim, “24” patches on the lapel and back, which he paired with a white evening shirt and black grosgrain bow tie.
Speaking with ABC7 on the red carpet, Lee noted his outfit was a “tribute, honor, and homage.” Lee's tribute outfit was rounded out by a pair of high-top "Strategy" Kobe 9s.
Lee has a long and established history of memorable red carpet outfits, and the filmmaker has routinely laced up limited Jordans for previous Oscars events. Last year, he donned a pair of custom gold “Tinker” Air Jordan 3s, featuring custom heel logo that read “40 Acres and a Mule Filmworks," as a nod to Lee's production company.
