Converse Brings Back Animal Print—We're Wild For These Four
Converse’s classic silhouettes are steeped in history. They’ve been around for the best part of a century, and their names—the Chuck Taylor All Star, the Chuck 70—are as ubiquitous as some of the biggest sneaker staples out there.
When tampering with the classics, a certain amount of caution is required. Thankfully, Converse has a dab hand when it comes to such things, and the chosen alteration—namely, the addition of new animal prints to the line-up—endures trend cycles with the persistence of… well, of a classic Converse silhouette. Joined at the hip since the ‘70s, Converse and animal prints can now be considered a classic, and they’re being given a very current upgrade.
These new designs might speak directly to 2025’s favorite maximalist trend, but their packaging as timeless silhouettes means that they needn’t be ephemeral. Plus, to really make sure you it really aligns with your own taste, you can customize your Converse on the brand’s By You platform.
Below, we rank four of our favorite designs. Which are you making your own?
CHUCK 70 FAUX SNAKESKIN
Mauve and Egret might sound like a terrible twosome plucked from a Tim Burton film, but we think Converse’s name for the colorway of these Chuck 70s perfectly captures the vibe. For us, this snakeskin twist on a classic silhouette gives them a dark, understated feel. There’s a hint of emo to the wearer of these Chucks, but they’re also composed, fashionable, referential. This is also the only men’s silhouette to make our list, so if you’re a guy and a stickler for the rules, this might be the one for you. That said, we’re all for mixing it up.
CHUCK TAYLOR ALL STAR LEOPARD
If there’s one faux-feline design that’s coming back right now, it’s leopard print. This big cat has always been a fashion staple, from ‘50s Dior, to ‘90s Kate Moss, to 2020s subcultural sleaze, but the current swarm of Hedi Slimane-inspired fits has really brought the trend back in full force. This particular kitty is a subtle statement—a classic Chuck Taylor All Star, low top, patterned with a light leopard print. For those who prefer simplicity and comfort while giving a nod to your fellow indie kids.
CHUCK TAYLOR ALL STAR SNAKESKIN HI
Another snakeskin offering, this time a little less macabre and a little more rock ‘n’ roll. There’s a whiff of Keith Richards about these—and while we’re not promising this will elevate you to Rolling Stone level, you’ll still likely see them on the feet of Glastonbury’s more rock-inclined festival-goers. At the end of the day, though, this is a high-top as versatile as any other.
CHUCK TAYLOR ALL STAR SKAKESKIN LO
Nothing suits summer like this green iteration of the Chuck Taylor All Star Snakeskin. It’s low-key but a little bit weird. These Converse wearers are givers rather than takers; they’ve mastered the art of complete self-assurance. Where will you find them this summer? Who knows — their phone is dead, and they’re too busy having a great time.
