Lamar Jackson’s MVP Calibre Season, Frank Clark’s 7,000 Swarovski Crystal Cleats, & More on ‘The Toss Up’
The Toss Up is Highsnobiety’s weekly update on everything NFL and your go-to for the top playmakers and tastemakers. This edition highlights MVP Lamar Jackson and Rookie of the Year Nick Bosa, Derrick Henry’s impeccable pregame style, and how Calais Campbell became this year’s NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year.
Lamar Jackson and Nick Bosa are this edition’s First Down and Top Rookie Players. Jackson was the unanimous vote to become this year’s MVP. The former Heisman winner became the first Baltimore Raven to be named MVP. Jackson became the third-youngest MVP recipient at 22 years and 356 days old at the end of the season (only Jim Brown, who won the award twice at 21 and 22, was younger). Bosa was named this year’s Defensive Rookie of the Year after what was a breakout season. The 49ers’ edge defender had 32 solo tackles and 9 sacks along with another 4 in the postseason. Along with his sacks, Bosa posted 25 quarterback hits, 16 tackles for loss, and 80 quarterback pressures.
This edition’s Fit Report and Cleat Check players are Derrick Henry and Frank Clark. Henry, the Tennessee Titans’ running back and the league’s leading rusher, also proved to be a star off the field. Throughout the season, Henry could be seen head to toe in designer brands like Louis Vuitton, Moncler, and Dior. Frank Clark, a Kansas City Chiefs defensive end, shined all season with his custom cleats – and the Super Bowl was no different. Clark wore a custom pair of Jordan cleats with over 7,000 Swarovski crystals placed by hand onto the cleats.
Calais Campbell is this edition’s Off-Field MVP. Campbell, a defensive end for the Jacksonville Jaguars, was named the 2020 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year at the NFL Honors Awards Ceremony. Working with his mother and siblings, Campbell helped found the CRC Foundation in 2009. The foundation, named in honor of his late father, Charles, has been committed to growth in the local community by teaching crucial life skills to young people. Since arriving to Jacksonville, Campbell has held multiple Christmas drives, organized football camps, and started a CRC book club.
