A Brief History of Gucci Mane's Incredible Glo-Up
Everybody loves a good redemption story, and there are few in recent memory as heart-warming and profoundly transformative as Gucci Mane's. In just two and a half years since his release from prison, Guwop has undergone a switch from being the intimidating godfather of trap to being a kindly, genuine godfather to the next generation, aligning himself as a mentor figure for the likes of Rae Sremmurd and Migos.
In this brief span of time, he has also managed to release 5 albums, two mixtapes, three EP's and an untold number of guest verses and collaborations. He wrote an autobiography that has its own trailer. He went to Europe for the first time. And, of course, he has found love; his wedding with Keyshia Ka’oir on October 17, 2017 (10/17, naturally) was one for the books.
Simply put, Gucci has been living his truest self, and his newfound joie de vivre has him looking fresher than ever and making better work than he's ever made before. To chart his growing list of successes, we've compiled a brief visual history of Gucci Mane's incredible glo-up.
Guwop wasted literally no time taking advantage of his freedom post-prison. Within 24 hours of leaving, he dropped "First Day Out Tha Feds," already one of his strongest tracks in a while without the added context.
Some of the earliest visual evidence of Gucci’s glo-up included this fresh all-white ensemble, as Gucci’s then-girlfriend - now fiancée - filmed Guwop fresh out of prison on Memorial Day weekend in 2016.
A few months later, Gucci’s remarkable style transformation was profiled in Vogue, and the publication even had him review Alessandro Michele’s most recent collection for Gucci.
In October 2016, Guwop met one of his rap heroes, Common, and even got to feature on a remix of the legendary Chicago hip-hop artist’s song “Black America Again” in November.
Rae Sremmurd’s Guwop-featuring “Black Beatles” from their album SremmLife2 gave the Atlanta artist his first number one song, and it’s since gone 5 times Platinum.
Late November 2016 was definitely a highlight for Gucci, as he proposed to his longtime girlfriend Keyshia Ka’oir courtside at an Atlanta Hawks game.
In December, the self-proclaimed East Atlanta Santa had his best Christmas ever!
In addition to rapper, entrepreneur, and all around bad-ass, Guwop added author to his resumé in 2017 when he announced The Autobiography of Gucci Mane. He officially became a published writer as of September 19 2017.
At the BET Awards back in June 2017, Gucci twinned hard with DJ Khaled’s son Asahd in matching turquoise suits.
A major high point for Gucci this year was undoubtedly his first trip across the pond. Guwop toured across Europe, flexing in the finest ensembles in Germany, France, Ireland, and more.
Despite his newfound jet-setter lifestyle, he still managed to find time to kick it in his pool with his favorite ice cream floaty.
The Wopsters flexed hard at 2017’s MTV VMAs in two stunning ensembles.
Gucci then announced his televised wedding special, which is typically only a thing if you have your shit more than together and can afford over-the-top nuptials. Fiancée Keyshia Ka’oir assured fans the “diamond-flooded wedding” would be “over-the-top fabulous.” Naturally, Guwop’s wedding took place on October 17 (10/17) at 10:17am.
To celebrate his wedding and the end of Gucci’s single status, Offset threw him what looked like an unforgettable surprise bachelor party. Finally on that fateful day, 10/17/2017, Gucci Mane married the love of his life, Keyshia Ka'oir, and it was nothing short of over-the-top.
