Originally created in the late 1980s by Toshikazu Kayano as his first design project with ASICS, the EX89 combines heritage influences of the 1989 GEL-EXTREME basketball shoe with modern cushioning properties. The upper of the silhouette features layered leather construction, executed in color schemes that draw from iconic NBA uniforms of that era. ASICS’ FF BLAST cushioning technology is then implemented to provide lightweight impact absorption amid daily wear, while the shoe’s sculpted heel shape improves underfoot comfort.
